Berkley bellows and cables
« on: July 19, 2010, 03:51:51 PM »
When I pulled the inspection plate off my drive to document it for another member over on the main CGOA site I noticed the bellows and cables were in less than good shape on my CV-21.  Anyone found a real good site to get parts off the net aside from Rex Marine and Berkley?  I will likely order from Rex Marine but have to phone in the order.  Rex is about 25% less expensive that direct orders from Berkley or CP Performance.  Also, the main shift cable's cover is cracked although it still works fine.  Anyone ever tried to recover it with a shrink fit cover?

I didnt see that at first. Looks like Miss Mayberry is parked there too. Probably a good idea.
Chris
The only place I have checked was berkley and I was quoted something like 80 bucks for one cable. I have no idea how that compares to others so I'll watch this thread to see what you end up doing.

Great to get a look at your jet. Now I can see why my engine and stuff is so far forward....the entire portion where the clean out is, is inside on mine. Interesting.

Nice hat btw  :D

Rex Marine has the best prices I have seen so far but they do not have a web based order system So I will have to phone in an order.  I need a new bilge pump too so will get one from them as well.

The yard I store in has the razor wire, 24 hour live camera and key card access.  I like it! Never had a problem there in 3 years but at $100 a month ... better not have! I just moved them closer to the house in another yard that also has razor wire but in not quite so fancy with the web cams.  I think I need to get into the storage business!

I was cruising about 40 and lost the hat .... did a quick 180 and jumped in to get it. It was hot and the water felt great!

I ordered the bellows from Rex Marine today, $16 and change each. Cable looks like about $50 if I need to replace it.  I am going to look at that and see if I can repair the covering first as it seems to operate fine so far.

I will check them out.
Problem is, mine isnt hooked up correctly (on the throttle control) so I was going to have a shop do it but as we know that means many $$

That hat probably floated. Some fish probably would have eaten it given enough time. Kinda looks like some dead weeds.  :D
I lost a black cap on the first outing this year, on then Minnesota river. That water was merky. I cant believe is sunk so fast. Never found it. Good thing it didnt say Glastron on it! :o
That must be Mrs. Hotwired in that shot or..?
have you determined if you'll be dragging a boat up here this year? Probably rather impractical.

That is my Aunt, a fellow Glaston Nut, she has a CV-16 ( a VERY nice CV-16) and I have been trying to convince her to come to the meet too.

The Hat, it did float but I was taking no chance as there were a lot of other boats around and it could have been chewed to fish food in a heart beat!  I did loose my CGOA hat on an outing with my big boat, the CV-27 a few years ago. It was nearly new at the time and has the boat's  name, Ship O Fools, embroidered on it, I was again doing about 40 or 45 when I lost it.  I dove in to get that and forgot to shut down the engines on the boat!  I was the only one on board too!  I swam up next to the side of that and about died!  How the He!! was I going to get back in!?!? Climbing up the drives is about the only way.  But Running????? Well ... I did. Made me nervous to say the least!  Got my hat back though!

Bellows came in yesterday and I got them installed today.  Should cut down on the water in the boat! Still going to have to replace or at least turn around  that cable but I feel better about taking her out again now.

LOL!
Yeah a lot like him.
That cable does look pretty narly. Cant be good having the outside casing all cracked. I am sure that is what mine was like before someone slathered it all up with red RTV. Probably work in your situation but not mine.

Yes you convince her come up for the meet. Good time for sure.

I would try a piece of heat shrink tubing and fix it as long as it is working good.  I've used heat shrink to fix other things water tight and it works.  They even make some with a glue like stuff inside that would really seal it up good.
Every day is a great day at the lake!
