Just about ready to paint deck. Gonna be Acura NSX pearl yellow. They've taken some artistic liberty on the stern. See if'n you can spot it.
Check out the transom and knees. Floor is 1/2" Plascore.
-
Took a lil artistic liberty around the horn grill too.
Nice jack plate huh? Must be nice.
That's the shop dog "Dozer". He's a lot bigger than he appears in the mirror ...
-
love the pup!

love the pup!
Think they call him "Dozer" cuz he likes to head butt ya. That and he takes alotta naps.
He is a bad influence however. If'n yer hangin out bsin he want's to be right there. But when any actual work begins he want's back in the office AC.

That's called a "BOSS" Doug ...
Nice CVX !
Ya'll be havin' some fast boats ...

Here is a pic of the cvx after it was painted.....

Wow, that's an eye pop'n color. Boat is coming together nicely.
-
Gauges etc.....
-
That yellow looks sharp.
-
Mock up of windshield, jackplate installed.
-
Thanks Larry and John for the color comments!
-
Is that yellow from an LFA?
-
WOW! that really makes it Pop with the windshield in place.
-
Please forgive, I have no idea what an LFA is. The color is New Indy Yellow which is a Honda color.

Ah...thought Doug mentioned it was a Lexus color. (Lexus LFA)

I was misinformed ...

No big deal , I just was trying to think what yellow Lexus ever had... that was all I could come up with

Think Ron's is a lil more 'orangy' than 'yellowy' ...?
No offense ...
-
Yeah, I like Ron's color choice better!
-
Have to be honest, I settled on a yellow and creme white combo because I wanted a bright color that would mot get hot in the florida sun. My cousin picked that yellow and the white. Here is a closeup with a light so you cam see the pearl. Should be pretty showy in the sun.
-
NICE !
Thought he said Acura NSX yellow ?
I'll take my NSX in red ... Thank you ...
-
Probably.
-
Bolted the motor on today, let the rigging begin!
-
And, what motor is that?
-
Suweet! Which prop did ya go with?
-
150 HO ... That sucker should move ...
-
Etec 150 HO, mo prop yet. Going to try a few. I am going to start with a Raker 28 Inch pitch.
-
Nice looking rig!
-
Might try a SRX 27".
-
Fuzzbutt's friend put a 150HO Evinrude E-Tec on a CVX-16 with a 3" setback and runs 63 MPH GPS. Sounds like there is more top end to be had.

There better be. I don't think Ron'll be too pleased if I can still smoke him with the Baja ...
Hey btw I looked up "Osborn", looky what I found: Note the difference in that dash from mine. That looks to be an exact copy.
-
I would say you have an Osborne. It looked so similar to the one I had in the early 80's. Got the rub rail on, used the screwdriver gimmick you suggested.
-
I would say you have an Osborne.
Don't think so. Check out my dash: No 'pod', or scallops.
Glad you got the rubrail insert in. My method's a lil tedious, but less frustrating than tryin to pull it through.
-
sorry about being late to mention this...
but for next time
if ya stick it in a bucket of hot water ya can just push it in without tools (you do need to compress it as ya go though)
-
Went for a short ride yesterday. Boat sits in the water real nice. Rides great.
Think he's gonna have to back down an inch or two in pitch from the 28. Lil sluggish outa the hole. But it'll do 50mph @ 3500rpm.
When he gets it dialed in I don't think 70mph is out of the question.
He's out again today. Mebbe he'll post some pics.(My friggin camera was out of memory yesterday. Grr.)
-
Got 68 mph GPS out of the old girl today. Still need to do some more tweaking. Not too bad for the second splash.

Not much boat in the water !
-
Yeah, the old girl looks pretty good when it is running. Really happy with the boat. Being my first glastron I was not sure what to expect.
-
Interesting read ...

Y'know tbh, and fwiw, my cameraman/men kinda suck ...
Best (only) pic I got:
-
After raising the motor on the jackplate, I got 67 mph gps. Here is the kicker, I had my 200 pound plus cousin in the boat and 2 extra 5 gallon gas cans, and a large cooler with three 5 pound bags of ice, a 12 pack of bottle beer (my cousin drank a few of those, I have a thing about not drinking while operating a boat) some water, dews etc... Easily 300 extra pounds of weight in the boat. The best thing was the boat was very very controllable at speeds over 60. I am pretty happy with todays results!
-
Without the extra pounds, 70 MPH or more are attainable. What prop are you running and what are the RPM's?
-
Running a 26 inch 4 blade BRP RX prop. RPM was around 5000, going to try a 24 inch next weekend to get the R's up a little more.
-
Ya y'need to get that baby a lil closer to the limiter.
-
Agreed Doug. How was the lake on Sunday? Was there a good showing!
-

3 Allisons, an Action, and a Talon. And poor Quentin's red Hydrostream that he couldn't make run, again.
-
New top speed for Ron. WooHoo!
At approx 5400 swingin a 24 Raker. (I told him he'd like this prop.)
-
I would like to point out he let me drive for the first time after his solo speed run. I ran 70.8
-
Pics: (See we do have locks in FL.)
-
It was a little disconcerting to see how at home Doug was running the old Glastron....lol. And I promised I would say "you were right Doug, that is the right prop for the boat". Boat did go faster and was much easier to steer than the 4 blade 24 through all RPM ranges. Thanks Doug!
-
I'm glad you like the prop. Think it's just about right for the boat.
Ah good, I masked my fear well ...
-
Congratulation !
The money shot ...

No kidding. Barely even making waves. Guess need the boat in the water to do that.
-
So a CVX-16 with a 150 HP Evinrude can go 71.4 MPH, just as fast as an Intimidator with a hopped up 350 - 400 HP engine, and handles nicely in doing so. I bet that Ron's boat can go even faster with some more prop experimentation. Heard Tom Brown went about 90 MPH in his CVX-16 with a Mercury 225 HP but it was almost uncontrollable. Tom reworked his pad, but as I understand it, would not have modified it if he had to do it over.
-
Didn't TAZ do 87-89mph? I will be reworking my timi hull, and building a shorter drive. Hoping to hit 75-80. Thought Tim hit upper 70's last year at TI? Personally I'd take a 20 doing 75 over a 16 doing the same speed.
-
Video of TAZ 84 MPH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgdsxQT8GkM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgdsxQT8GkM)
88 MPH per the owner, motor dyno'ed at 440 HP.

Safe bet David. I'm thinkin a chopper. For now I suggested whackin an inch of pitch outa the Raker to get him closer to the limiter. (6100 rpm)
We were carryin a fair amount of fuel. Well as Ron's cooler, toolbox, etc. And his silly speakers and amp and such ...
I don't think 75 is too far fetched.
Handles great. Did get a lil squirrely once when I backed outa it too fast. But I'm blamin that on a sticky control lever ... It really is!
-

Smooth out the hull, and raise the X dimension. Bingo! Oh, and add hp ...
Understand Ron'n Mark spent alotta time on the bottom, and it shows. Cruises effortlessly @ 55. And the dang Etec's so quiet you can carry on a conversation. It's a really nice setup.
Way to go Ron!!!

When I win the lottery I'm gonna put a pair of 400R's on a CV27.
-
Right now I am pretty happy with a 70mph boat with my regular everyday gear including my drink cooler with a 10 pound bag of ice in it. I figured I wanted to see what it would do under normal conditions. We did spend alot of time on the bottom but we did not change the design at all. We just fixed all the dings and chunks so that it was as slick as when it was made. In that sense it is original. I would guess that the boat is considerably lighter than it was from the factory due to the ceramic transom and honeycomb floor. There is also only two seats and quite a bit less foam as almost all of that was removed. We also did not put all the frilly trim around the cockpit etc.... The purists probably hate that but I like the clean look of the boat. If I had to guess I would say just the hull is arouond 650 pounds rather than the 750 it was from the factory. I really do not think I am going to try to do anything to the boat or motor to get more speed as I am pretty happy with the performance right now. I think the best part is that we still did over 70 with two people in the boat. That to me is awesome!!
-
It is awesome for a 16 foot boat with a factory stock 150 HP to go 70 MPH quietly, without strain, without constant correction of the steering wheel, and with stable handling.
My scaled down version is a Glastron/Carlson 1987 CVX-16 with a straight hull with no nicks or scratches, without a hook at the end, running a stock 1985 115 HP Johnson weighting 302 pounds, achieving 55 MPH at about 5,400 RPM, with effortless steering and predictable handling.

It is awesome. But next time @ the lake I'm drivin solo. And we're gonna take all that unnecessary bs outa the boat ...
-
Whaddya think, a little bit of poor mans upholstery.......lol

Looks good, but I'm partial to this kind of cooler:

Me too, that's cool!

@David CVX-16 hey David - what prop were you running when you hit 55mph in your CVX-16? I have a '78 with an '80 Merc ToP 115 and top out at 42mph @ WOT. Getting up to speed is effortless but it feels like she's got a lot left

Whats that steering system with what looks like the trim switch on the column.

My faster props are a OMC Raker 22" pitch and a OMC SRX 23" pitch, hitting about 55 to 57 MPH GPS at about 5,400 RPM. You should be getting much more than 42 MPH. Try a Laser II 20 to 22" pitch.

Thanks David!
