Aqua Meter Tach Adjustment Info
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:29:57 AM »
I got some awesome info from the FB forum and wanted to get it here.

I wanted to see if my tach was off, someone posted an image of the sticker and the settings for the tach.

My tach was showing 3k but my ear says 4k at least. i put in a replacement tach (looks like its right for a 4 cyl). Lets see what I get when I hose it and fire it up soon.

A 4 stroke engine fires one cylinder every 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation.  So your Merc 140 only supplies 2 pulses per turn.  Depending on the ignition and engine, some ignition systems will fire twice, the 2nd time is wasted as the cylinder is on its exhaust stroke.    Do you have any access to test equipment that can verify your dash tach accuracy?  Most timing lights with advance have tachs built in, handy for checking advance rate, total advance, and initial timing.   Sounds like you have a good ear for engines to notice the tach is off, all this time that tiger thought it had a V-8.

The image showing the sticker on the back was sent to me. mine was on the 2 positions and the replacement tach is as well. Just gotta test fire it. I have tachs I can connect, but just haven't yet. Gotta move boat, connect hose, afterwards, drain engine and manifold, etc...
