Looking for a steering cable for my 73 Glastron Carlson cv16. The number on the cable reads m1324 on the metal end that goes into the rack steering at the steering wheel end. It’s a merc rack and pinion steering all original from 73. My merc dealer told me the cable is no longer available and suggested that I change the whole set up, I’d rather keep it all original. The dealer told me the cable is roughly 12 foot . Is there a new cross reference number that I’m not aware of.? If anyone out there has a good one , I’m interested, Thanks.

I have a few cables from some of my parts boats. If you have a picture that I can compare them to I’ll see what might work.

I would get a brand new Seastar steering system.

Mine was a "Rack" style, with 13 foot cable, with transom mounting.

Seastar was Teleflex, which made your original steering system.
Replace everything with new for safty reasons.
Not sure if new cable would even fit old helm ...

Any more details on your CV ?
Motor ?
Steering system mounting style ?
Any extra gauges in dash, that would get in way of helm ?

I still have my original helm and cable, but really wouldn't even give it away, unless you have a small motor like a 85 HP or less.
Would hate for so / so steering system to fail at a important time and hurt you or someone else.

These are what I have if anyone might want them. The short black one is 12’, the red one is 14’,and the long black one is 16’. They all worked good when I pulled them off the boats. No shipping you’ll have to find a way to get them or I can bring them to the meet in August. And I think I have the columns also.

The red cable set up is just like mine so I measured my cable again from end to end the complete cable length, and it measures 13, so yours is a foot longer. I wonder if I can make that work? The no shipping kind of cancels me out. I appreciate you looking for me. If your interested in shipping to the upper New York State area let me know.

I keep forgetting that our little minn. wis. boat club isn’t so little anymore. :) Most of the extras I have I would give away to anyone in need but the shipping would cost just about as much as you could find a new one close to you. Sorry.

Just the cable It’s not a big deal to dismantle the unit from the cable Your cv looks identical to mine. In your picture. Mine has the original merc 115 from 73 I just ordered the gt emblem and the rear Glastron Carlson emblems to freshen mine up . Mine were original and faded. I keep the 19 prop on it to pull the family waterskiing And tubing with good over all cruising speed My interior was redone 15 years ago. To the same style And colour as the original
