Title: One last run?
Post by: 75starflight on September 18, 2015, 04:50:15 PM
Its almost the end of September if our weather holds together does anyone want to get together in say mid October for one last outing?

My free weekends in October as of now look like the weekend of the 10th and 24th.

River run, Carter, or manawa.  Last time we talked, the west ponds dry up this time of year.

Amber and I would prefer river. Make the trip from dodge park South past the 80 bridge an back up would be fun IMO. But we are open to other options. Branched oak would be an option too.

I will check with the boss about the tenth or 24th.  Anyone else up for a run?

Looks like either date will work, any interest in the community?, makinwaves, madbohunk, Travis and family, anyone?  Going south on the river could be kewl, lots of sand.   Not sure if the docks are open, I will check this week.  Floating when planes come in is kinda kewl.

I have a wedding to go to on the 10th.  I've requested the 24th off if that happens to be the day chosen.  I'll just need a new belt and a few quarts of oil.  :o

So your saying we need to come up with an oil I.V. for the old 460? LOL.

The 24th works for me. How about anyone else.

That will also give me time to get the oil pan gasket changed on Phoenix.

I like the IV idea.  I'll at least need a funnel.

I start the new job on Oct. 5th.

Just a thought, could launch at manawa on river and hit Bellevue, Omaha, and up to dodge park, then float a bit or head back and lake around manawa for awhile.  Bring a card table and grill out?  Depends on temps I suppose in the water for cove fun.  Timing may also be an issue, maybe grill something before the folks that have a drive ahead of them.  Grill at 5pm, on the road at 6?  We can start early or say 10am.  I need to check the docks at the trophy room to see if open, or maybe dock at Surfside for lunch.

Sounds like a good plan. Just a thought, being the 24th is a Saturday maybe some of us may be inclined to hang out for a while.

Any updates on ramps and things being open Mike or Tim?

Any one else thinking of joining in? Just 2 weeks to go!

River and lakes still open for business.  Water level still pretty high on the river, but it seems to rain more this year than normal.  Tim will be over Sunday for slitting the timi and for biters, so I can run it by him.  Are we planning a group meal thing for dinner, lunch, both?  Never been there on the river but Surfside has good food and they put in docks.  Look up Storz trophy room, OK but pricey.  I'd bet plenty of grills to be had at manawa.

Figured lunch on the river for sure. Saw some where that Surfside opens at 3 on Saturdays. I will call and check for sure tomorrow on their hours.

If it still looks this way by the 17th I will probably winterize Phoenix for the season after I get my oil leak fixed.

Low to mid 60's seems about right for last run outings we have had in the past.  Two years ago we had light frost overnight and it warmed up to 55ish.   Definitely jacket weather, but the water is still warm.   I can bring the small grill and we could have an afternoon bite on a sandbar, or bring a sandwich lunch?  A number of venues never returned primarily due to our government declaring large sections of river frontage as flood plain and no building of anything is allowed.  Bellevue and Sandpiper are both gone.  The Anchor inn moved its concert area to the new Cottonwood, that was the outdoor stage area you saw when we were up there.   Since it will be cooler, should we boat later in the day?  I pretty much reserved the day for boating, and can plan to eat anytime/anywhere.   Could put out at 5ish and head to Casino for Buffet?  Cooking some dogs/burgers on the river is always fun.  Would like to explore the old Sandpiper area, but I bet its signed off limits.  Could float and watch some planes land/take off.    The next day will be winterizing, cleaning, and transfer to winter cradle for indoor storage, so hoping that the day provide some good memories.

Let's just keep things as planned for now. Grilling on the river beached on a sand bar sounds good and then supper at the casino buffet sounds great too.

Well...I decided to winterize Phoenix today since I found a crack in the drive shaft bellows when i pulled the drive so I could pull her engine to fix her oil leak. At least i now know where the water in her bilge came from.

Sorry to hear you will not be making it,  Tim and I are still planning to go out, might just be my boat.   Since we have mentioned the outing for some time, I'd hate to hear that someone showed up and we were not there.  Was there anyone else considering coming out?  We will plan to be at the Manawa ramp at 10am just to meet/greet and decide how the day will play out.  Hard to believe we are talking final run of season when its supposed to be 83 degrees here today.   The Timi is already "winterized" by a makeshift roof and all the flooring, mechanicals, and wiring removed.   The cradle is ready for the CVZ, so this Saturday will be it for 2015.

Trent talked about it, but said if it gets cooler he probably won't make it. Travis is having lower unit problems and is going to winterize this weekend.

I was hoping to discuss the season opener for next year this weekend, so give some thought as to what we as a group want to do next spring.   I'm OK with Rathbun, but we do need to set a date at least and maybe consider a venue.
