I sold my CV16 last year- makes me very sad....... so I'm looking around and I found a guy thinking of selling me his. But he was honest enough to say the floor was soft and the transom was too. I've never delved into that arena. Anyone have an idea of what kind of dough a person would sink into those projects? (or who around town does a good job on them?) As bad as it sounds, I don't have the time this summer to tackle it myself- even though it'd be a great learning opportunity. Thanks guys,

Yeah, well. I paid way too much for mine to begin with. $800 bucks for boat, motor, & trailer. Floor was "new" and the stringers, transom felt solid. Looked really good too! "Fresh" from Ohio. Oh well. Hang a big(er) motor on it & all hell breaks loose.
For gits'n shiggles I just added up all the reciepts I could find from my 'resto'. Most of these were from Fiberglassservices for resin, tuff stuff, glass. Came up with $2207.71.
This does not include rebuilt motor, new(er) gearcase, Lightspeed prop, SRX prop, new clutch-dog, new driveshaft, etc, etc.
Just in case you think you're an idiot for spending "too much" money on your Glastron? I'm the biggest idiot of all. I probly got 4 or 5 grand in a boat that might sell for $1000 ...
But boy she sho rides nice. Hauls a** too ...? Guarantee she'll smoke a GT 150 with comparable power.

As per that quote ... doing the labor yourself it could be about $2k in materials. Having someone else do the labor I could easily imagine 2 - 3 times that. This is a reasonable hobby but not at all a lucrative business! But still .... go see what $8k - $12K buys you for a new boat. Not much ... not even a new 150 HP engine!
And look at the great company you'll be in!

There are a lot of relly nice old Glaston's for sale right now for under $3000. you'll have that into your boat in no time. I don't think the materials to do the floor and transom are all that expensive, maybe $500, but if you pay someone to do it I would image in couple more grand with all the hours of labor.
Are you looking at another CV16?

I can tell you that I did fix the transom on the CVZ-18 using Seacast. Good stuff, very good stuff. Floor, stringers everything would have me at about $500.00 into a boat that cost me $600.00.
If it were me...there are a lot of nice older Glastron's for sale, like others have said...(that Green CV-19 for example), which could get you on the water today for a lot less than redoing a boat...

Which green CV16? Where's it posted? (the other one is around $1k, but am told the 115 Merc is perfect, etc.)

I got a whole new hull restoration method in mind next time around. A roached out GT 150 in Sarasota gave me the idea. My plan goes like this:
Support the hull. Remove deck. Remove floor. Extract every last piece of soggy wood you possibly can from transom & stringers without disturbing the surrounding glass. Rinse & repeat.
Then use a pourable compound to fill the cavities. Smooth the tops, replace floor, remount deck, hang 140 hp motor & yer good to go ...?

That gt would be a fun boat with a 140hp on it, what ya thinking maybe 60-65mph woohoo.

Oh yeah. I'd imagine a GT 150 with a 140 trimmed right would run at least 65.
Might wanna do a back-flip on ya into a headwind though ...

If you want it to be a learning opportunity, you need to do it yourself and not be in a hurry to get it on the water this year unless you can kick butt on it. Shorty could probably do it in a week but he is the exception! :D Lots of Red Bull I think.
I would think having someone do it would be out of the question $$ wise unless you are loaded so if that is the case, buy something nice that doesnt need much if any work and enjoy your spare time. So if you're up for a challenge and its cheap enough and you have a place to work on it (maybe even in the winter) go for it!
Sure there are tons of water ready boats out there. Would you get any satisfaction out of buying one and dropping it in the water with no work? Maybe. Depends on you and your situation.
I will be picking up my 3rd boat this weekend and somethimes I dont know what I've been sniffing but this one is going to wait and will not be a "speed boat". It will be my oldest (61) This is a disease and I've got the bug lately. Jerry's is still older.

I recently replaced a floor and all of the stringers on a 1971 Glastron V156. I knew the floor had a soft spot when I bought the boat last year. I figured I was handy, and how hard could it be to replace the floor? It was a LOT of work! You never know the condition of the structure under the floor until you start tearing into it. I think that it took 80 plus hours to replace the floor and all of the stringers. I spent over $1000 and used 6 gallons of polyester resin on the project. I purchased all of the materials, except for the wood, at Express Composites in Northeast Minneapolis, (highly recommeneded A+++). The floor is now better then when it came from the factory. If any water ended up in this boat below the floor, there is going to be some water damage to any exposed wood. If you enjoy fixing things, replacing a floor can be a good project, at least you will know everything about your floor when you done. Buying a boat with a good floor would be less work and maybe cheaper in the end. I'll try to attach a few pictures of my project after I post this. Good Luck. Bill

Its is or was actually listed on Greggs Glastron of the day list. Its a 61 Fireflite I think with no interior or motor. I have to go to St. Cloud to get it. This all started with the trip down memory lane about the old 50 HP Johnson we had growing up, then coming across one which I picked up Monday from another member. Its seized up and I knew that before I got it but had my mind made up about the boat already. I certainly dont need another but it looks like a good specimen and its reasonably priced, I think. This will be on the back burner.
Sorry I am still posting pics here but I have DIAL UP and am told it will take weeks to get set up with Picasa.

It's just starting.
Well some day I'll need a tank Jerry but this motor would need a total rebuild. I took it more for sentimental reasons. The motor did get me to go for the boat however.
Off to cut the grass before it rains again.

That would be great but dont you think 125 on that boat would be a bit much? Also I need to finish the 175 first...then do some stuff/have it done to the 163, and I need a better tow vehielc and house stuff and...you get the idea.
