1979 CVX 16 SS I/O Steering Cable replacement

I bought a new cable and helm and am anticipating this being a chore to do. Any tips from someone who has done one on our style of boats?

I took down the dash first, then pulled it out towards the port front seat.    Have a friend help guide and push the cable out.   Really not a bad job, just goes easier with help.

I've heard of people attaching old cable to new cable and pulling it thru.
Mine was stuck in foam on top of stern box, so had to cut/dig it out before removing cable.
I didn't have any problems .. lots of room to install, but it's an outboard.

It was a success, just used a nylon rope and pulled it thru. Being that everything in the gunwale is attached to the cable, I made sure to check that everything worked after putting it back together.
