Title: Ohio Insanity
Post by: KnuckleHead on June 24, 2020, 12:25:45 PM
For some reason, I purchased an ant farm disguised as a boat.  In a total moment of impulsiveness, I bought a boat off Craigslist that was listed as a "GT150" but didn't look like it from the pictures.  I'm pretty sure it's a 1971 CV16 but maybe you guys could tell me for sure.  It's my first boat, first boat project, and first grounds for divorce.  I'm sure I'll be asking for a lot of advice, emotional and technical along the way.  The boat was sitting in a farmers field for years in Southern Ohio.  I stuck it in my garage and started to tear it apart almost instantly.  ANTS! Lots and Lots of ANTS!  I didn't realize the boat came with a crew.   Thanks in advance for any answers to my future full of questions.

I'll assume big black ants?  Those are carpenter ants, and rotten soggy wood is their favorite.  Good news is they don't eat fiberglass.  Tear out the wood and they will be gone with it.    Not a bad starter boat, perfect size for a  starter restoration project.  There are many threads on this site regarding everything you'd need to know to rebuild her to it's former glory.   Hopefully you have some boat resources locally, such as fiberglas suppliers and marine parts distributors.  Most of all, welcome to boating, and to CGOAMN.

Oh, we all hink we have a few screws loose tackling some of these projects; looks like your past the ugly part of deconstruction.

Here is a short thread of my floor build a few years back on my CV16.

Best of luck.
