CVX20 across country movement question
« on: July 13, 2018, 04:17:27 PM »
 https://allentown.craigslist.org/boa/d/1978-glastron-carson-with-200/6637491088.html

I called on it, in a way was hoping something would kill it for me . . . didn't, just more questions.  Everything came to the current owner in a form of a loan repayment, he didn't even want the boat.  He has had it a year and never even taken it on the water, but apparently it does start.  It has been sitting outside for at least a year without a full cover, the floor is shot, I would suspect the transom too, older trailer, etc. What's not to love?  :)  But still . . .

How would a person get it to Minnesota?  Assuming I could find a reputable marine mechanic to give it a look over.

Any thoughts?

David

Greg, I moved this to General.

Admittitantly, this is my dream boat.

And they seem to be giving it away at that price.  But the odd decals kind of are a buzz kill for me; one knowns there is fade and those decal spots would show forever.  And then there is the mileage, got to  let this one go to someone else.  (:   It hurts.

One option, go get it, roughly 1200 miles one way.  Make a week of it, see some of America on the way.   2nd option, contact a U-Ship contractor and get an estimate.  Most will load onto another trailer, less expensive folks would pull trailer directly.   Similar in scope, hire someone to get it, college is out right now, surely you could locate a starving college kid to go get it?  Third option, call a trucking firm.  It would require boat owner to figure out how to get it to a shipping dock I would imagine.  Personally, I'm an option one guy all the way, love the adventure.

In fine running order with the 2.5 OB, I would estimate a value around 6500-8000, so at $2200, you have lots of wiggle room.

I’d drive and get it if I were you but I live road trips. Price seems fair but I’d be willing to bet that motor needs major work. Bought it and never put in the water sounds like a story to me......

I will proceed slowly and methodically.  And yes the apricot is what I’m looking for; unfortunately, summer is my busy work period so road trips are tough to do.  I’m really happy with what I have but before Greg found my CV 16  for me and posted it up on this forum I hunted for a year for the Apricot CVX 20.  So there is a bit of intrigue for that machine.

What I have, I love . . . can it get better . . . maybe.  😀
