Return to Rathbun Summer Kickoff Meal
« on: May 21, 2014, 09:12:20 AM »
The Run on Rathbun Summer Kickoff is just three short weeks away.  I know I am getting excited about seeing everyone and actually getting in a few days of fun Classic Glastron boating.  (The drive is out of Burnin Daylight right now, uh oh).  So, time to start planning.  The Minnesota chapter has offered to sponsor a group breakfast, and Dan is planning an afternoon group meal.

 I have offered to help Dan organize the Saturday group meal.  I believe he is securing the meat item (smoked brisket), and I will keep a list of sides.  I will be bringing the largest crockpot that I have filled with Baked Beans, and a large bag of dinner rolls from Sams.  Everyone is welcome to bring what they feel would compliment the meal.  Here are a few suggestions;

Cold salads
Plastic ware, paper plates, napkins
Desserts
Warm items to compliment meat.
Corn on the cob
Barbecue sauces and condiments
Etc.......

If or when you post your contribution, I will start a list and try to keep it as up to date as possible.

Thank you everyone for participating!

Thanks Barb, and yes - smoked brisket it is.  Just dropped off the rub for the meat and the Texas white oak for the smoker.
I also have the BBQ "Sause" that I neglected to bring last year (don't worry, fresh purchase … I left it at home last year and used it after the meet)

I am also trying to gather up a casual breakfast for Sunday … Just some scrambled eggs, sausage, tortillas … stuff like that.  I've packed my blender already - that would have made scrambling a bunch of eggs easy, we could just pour out as we needed and keep the eggs cooled.  I need to buy a "high side" electric skillet.  I'll probably do the crumbled breakfast sausage in my crock pot.

FKristi and I will be bringing a chip dip that if you're not careful turns into a meal on it's own.

Thanks Erik.  I was beginning to worry a little bit about the food for the meal.  We will all feast on what we have.   :)

Thank you, Barb, and everyone!
I'll pick the brisket up on Thursday (6/12) from the smoker.  I'm an easy guy to please (mostly), and I'm perfectly down with brisket, beans, and a roll.  There will be plenty to get full on.

Wait, just read the whole menu, so we have rolls coming, ok, what are we missing?  Meat, Roll, Cake, Chips & Dip, I have no way to prep Corn on the Cob, maybe a pan of bars, or some cold veggies?

You may want to count out the beans and rolls.  It's looking like Im gonna have to miss the event due to personal reasons.

Oh no.  Sorry, Barb.  We'll miss you.

Brisket will be there.  Confirmed for pick up on Thursday from the smoker.  I'll bring it out Saturday AM, and get it hot for lunch.

I've got a large crock pot - no time to properly do beans, but I'll buy a few big cans of baked beans and toss them in.

Let me check on rolls before I commit, but they shouldn't be a problem, either … (although, beans and rolls might have to replace Sunday fixin's - I still haven't bought a high-side electric skillet, and some of my stuff has already made it's way to KC).

Doran,

I just posted on another thread.  No boat.  Sold it Friday for full asking price, no questions.  I was hoping to hold it, but had made peace with the idea that having that one extra thing to move to and store in KC would be something else that just kept costing money.  I wasn't happy to see it go, but wasn't terribly sad, either.  The cash in my pocket felt good.

I wouldn't have felt bad...its one weekend, it isn't a big deal.  Spend time with the family, we're all adults and can take care of ourselves...

Ok … for any Thursday arrivals checking in on Tapatalk, or Friday arrivals checking before leaving.

I am in possession of the brisket and beans.  Tomorrow I will acquire some rolls.  I'll get out tomorrow and visit for a bit …

I have a 10 x 20 canopy that I thought about bringing to set up the lunch under.  Since I've sold the boat, I don't really have a use for the canopy.  Would anybody like to buy it cheap?  Like $20 ???  I'll bring it out with me for sure if someone wants it - right now it's just another thing to move.
