1979 CVZ-19 convertible......
« on: July 07, 2010, 08:14:14 PM »
Here is a piece that I have been searching for everywhere. As most of you know, the convertible option was only offered on the CVZ-18, and VERY few made, only a few left... odds of finding the bow cover, pretty slim. Odds of finding it in the same color.... who knows. I am VERY thankful that I found it. Had it shipped up from Texas off a basket case CVZ-18 that luckily went un-noticed. It arrived today, and I almost hugged it. A very quick wetsand and hand polish on the corner shows it is gonna match nicely. Dorelse, what do you think? You know how bad I wanted one of these. Please excuse the photo quality, I took a few shots with my phone. I will post better ones in the sunlight after it is all cleaned up. Just wanted to share with everyone!  ;D  ;D  ;D

I would venture to say there is likely not another "convertible" CVZ-19 out there... perhaps I am not the only one fortunate enough to find one, and motivated to do so.

Great find! How did you go about locating that? Just curious. I need a new hatch cover for my 175. Way more common then what you found.

Thanks everybody! I am still real juiced about it... get a big smile everytime I walk into the shop.  ;D

Oh man!  Nice!   I head of a couple trying to fab their own but you can not beat that!

Hotwired, you may have seen Dorelse and I chatting about it. I had posted a thread looking for one or hoping to mold one.

Great find! How did you go about locating that? Just curious. I need a new hatch cover for my 175. Way more common then what you found.

Rosscoe, it was a craigslist find posted for the entire boat (total basket case) all the way in TX, and I am in PA... I was able to convince them to sell just the bow cover, and ship it. It was the result of many hours of searching, and ALOT of luck. Honestly, I would have paid what they wanted for the whole boat and told them to keep the rest... Maybe someone else can help here, but there is a list (maybe on CGOA) of resources that I have printed out in the past and called every number listed for salvage yards in search of parts I wanted. It may be a place to start. Or, perhaps someone here knows of a good Glastron boneyard...

And Dorelse... hope the boat is treating you well! I know you have put alot of time into workin out the bugs. I'm not sure if it will be THIS winter, but before long I will be doing a little flake and clear work on the CVZ just to really finish it off, and when I do, I am definately going to be molding the bow cover, if for no other reason than insurance in case something happens to mine, and if you are still thinkin you might like one for yours, definately do-able!

That list is updated and available on our site.  It's located on the home page just below the bow of the boat in a section called "vendor resources".  When you click the link, you get the full organized and updated list.

Yeah, I'll definitely be interested in a bow cover or 2 ;) .  Honestly, you making a master mold so all of us can benefit would be a great contribution to all of us.

Is that hard to do?  Please keep me in mind as you get to work on one.  I would love to see better pictures when you get to it.

Like you know, the 19 needs some floor work this fall.  I have to find a way to improve the drainage through those 2 rear drain holes...that's a must...otherwise I'm concerned it could eventually rot itself out.

The boat did treat me well, had a blast with it...and it flies!  That 19ft hull really keeps it pretty well planted.

Its really a great boat.

a little more progress... hoping to be on the water with this one in the next two weeks. still need to rebuild carbs, new fuel pump and lines, water pump impeller, a few other odds and ends, but mostly waiting on the back seat cushions from the upholstery shop, and then it's river bound!

just a quick update... I started a thread on Show 'n Shine on CGOA, but wanted to let everyone here know how it was coming along. after some tune-up work and finally finishing the interior, had a few GREAT weekends with this boat. I am LOVING it!  ;D for alot of reasons, and it is treating me very well. it's also perfect for what I need in an every weekend boat. this one will likely be the one I bring to Red Wing 2011, as I am pretty certain the Scimitar won't be done by then. I will be puting together a slideshow of the minor restoration I have done to this one since finding it, and will post the link, just wanna get a few more good shots of it, and figure out how to put the slideshow together!  ;) Dorelse has offered assistance there, thankfully I am a little better with these boats than I am with my computer.  ;D

looks like good company!  ;D honestly, I wish mine was in that photo... the same weekend of the meet was the first weekend mine was in the water since I got it. If I had known it would be finished, and be mechanically ready, it would have been there. there's next year to look forward to, and this one will be there, unless the Scimitar is done, and I highly doubt that!

well it's official... we have held the first annual PA Glastron Classic... there were two of us.  ;D really, it was just my buddy Shrom (new owner of my CVX-18) and I hanging out on the sandbar. Carlson's are few and far between here, but hopefully we can generate some interest, and maybe I'll even be able to bring a few more with me to Red Wing in 2011.  ;)

just to clarify because of some emails I've received... I was being sarcastic about the PA Glastron Classic bit... kinda making light of the fact that it is a little difficult to generate interest here (mostly I think because of a lack of this brand here), but, as the others pointed out, ya gotta start somewhere, and hopefully exposure will lead to participation!

I played around on the computer today, and finally figured out how to put this together... please excuse the quality, I was learning how to do this as I went...  :)
