CV16 Splashwell Steering Adapter Help
« on: July 02, 2019, 04:21:29 PM »
Hi all, I have a CV16 and have mounted my Merc 115 on it from my previous Glastron.  Because the CV16 has such a small well, using the tilt tube steering the motor can't turn right as the arm hits the splashwell wall right away.  In researching it, it looks like the SeaStar (Teleflex) Splashwell mount will solve the problem.  The questions I have are 1. am I correct?  and 2. would I need the 90 degree mount or the 15 degree offset mount or does it matter?

Photo of transom/splashwell attached.

Thanks!

Rob.

Welcome to the forum rstimy !
Looks like a 1976 CV16.

I have a Baystar on my CV16, the Seastar would work but not if you want to lift motor
Is you Merc a old style 2 tilt & trim cylinders ?
Or
The newer style with 3 T & T cylinders ?
The Baystar will fit the newer style motors, the older style will need some modification to fit.
The last picture is the newer style T & T system.

My CV16 originally came with a transom steering mount

Thanks for the reply and the photos - nice looking boat!  The Baystar appears to be a few hundred more than I paid for the boat!  :o

Are you saying that the splashwell wouldn't work or just that the Baystar would be an optimal solution?  It had the same motor on it before I bought it but that motor blew and the guy sold the boat.  My motor is an '84 I think.  Just trying to get this craft running ASAP so the kids can get skiing!

Thanks again,

Rob.

Looks like your CV also came with the transom mount system.
Splash well or Transom mount will work without cutting new holes.
Looks like transom mount is cheaper then splash well mount.
Can you post some pictures of the open bow ?

Thanks again!  As for the open bow, I didn't do it, it came that way.  Not sure why they didn't cut a bit for the feet - I guess it's more for kids.

Here is the only photo I have specifically of it.

No, between seats at back - external tank.
