Laid down some clear on 79 CVX 16 SS
« on: July 15, 2019, 11:42:23 AM »
No I'm not restoring it, I'm just trying to enjoy it. The old clear someone sprayed years ago came off like a snake shedding its skin, the base was down to the flake and flake would get in your towel and skin so something needed to be done for functionality. We scrapped all the clear off with razor scrapers and used a scotch brite pad and Palmolive and water on the original finish of the boat (that actually looked really good, but still, flake coming off). Cleared the front deck and gunwales. Turned out nice. Will do more later.

First is a before. The rest are after.

Quite an improvement, looks great.  I'm just assuming here, but the clear coat that was shedding must have been an automotive clear applied by a previous owner?  I can't say I've seen a gelcoat clear "peel", they seem to oxidize and yellow more than peel.   Any chance you would let us know what product you used, handy info for those in the same boat, pun intended.
