Title: Carlson emblems
Post by: Hyperacme on October 27, 2015, 10:43:41 PM
I thought there were just two styles of Carlson emblems on G/C's ...
Until Diamond Chad's post ...

G/C brochures aren't always right ... but ...

Every thing before 1985 have the Carlson emblems ... EXCEPT Scimitar's which just has CARLSON

All 1985 Carlsons have just a GLASTRON, except the Sprint.

Pictures
#1 is Sprint
#2 is CVX16
#3 is CVX17
#4 is Timmi

Good research Gregg. My 1987 CVX-16 emblem could look better (paint is fading), but will be left stock.

Mines a '88.  Must have had some left over '87 emblems :)  Haven't seen another one with the swim ladder on the drivers side yet either.

This badge is on my 87 cvx 18, I got the boat from the original owner, I am pretty sure the only thing he did to the boat was put a radio and depth finder on the dash.

The BIG Glastron, small Carlson must be kind of rare ?
Any one else have one ?

I know the were a few different style of CVX deck decals, but didn't know about the stern emblem.

Glastron seems to always have had exceptions. Here is from my 1986 CVX-20 "Sprint" (even though as I understand it, they no longer called them "Sprints" by then, but rather CVX-20 O/B for outboard model (I know, splitting hairs - just what I've seen though)) and as far as I know ours came from the factory with the emblems:

Info in brochures is often incorrect because there were made well before models were manufactured, could have been up to six months before,
Some models pictured are from prior years brochures, some are even paints of future models.
So ... no real surprise that emblems and deck decals don't match up  ...

Interesting to see which years and models got the red and blue small Carlson & which got the silver or white stripes on the emblem.

Anyone know when the Carlson production was moved from California to Texas?

I'm convinced that Glastron had some quality issues in the mid-eighties. Maybe due to the move and/or the economy at the time. The fact that there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason with the emblems on the various models during this time just reinforces that thought. It's like they were riveting on whatever emblem they had laying around or could find in the warehouse after the move.

Greg,

I never noticed or thought about it but my 2 23's have different emblems

The orange 1976 CV-23  Jet has the Carlson with red and blue.

The Blue (changing it to Orange) 1977 CV-23 I/O. The words GLASTRON CARLSON are one large plastic emblem.

I attached the only pic i could find that shows half the emblem. I am pretty sure that I have them in my tool box I will take a pic when I get home.

Found a better pic

Thinking that my Jet emblems must have been replaced at some point.

Looking at the brochures they look like the spelled out version on the earlier 23's both Jet and I/O.

Yes!
I'll check the 80's brochure when I get home.

The CVC also had the CV bow medallion but it is located on the engine cover.

I didn't realize they moved from Austin TX to New Braunfels, TX. Wonder if that is when they also moved the Carlson production out of Anaheim, CA to TX.
Pretty sure the info on the capacity tag on my '83 CVX16 stated it was made in the Anaheim, CA plant.

Sorry for the bad pics (only iPhone quality) but here are the '80s emblems:
CVX16
CVX18
Scimitar (they had the plastic emblems as well it seems)
CV23

CVZ-18 had the same. Can't find anything on the CVZ-19 though.

No it's a US brochure. Never seen a Roger Clark brochure. The La Raya always had the La Raya writing on the emblem as well.
