Ok...I'm not announcing anything.  Goldie is staying.

I'm thinking about adding a boat.  Can a solid transom hold the additional weight of a modern 4 stroke OB?  Mercury specs say its about 25 pounds when switching from their current 115 Optimax OB to their 115 4-Stroke...but what does an 80's era 115 OB weigh?

Before they went to injected 2 strokes (optimax, e-tec)  the 115's were around 300 lbs.  Mine (77') is 296# per the owner's manual.  If you're confident in the transom, let her rip.  I would say stay away from honda's though, the 115 is somehting like 500 lbs.

An 80's era 115 in-line 6 with T&T is about 330 pounds according to a Merc sales brochure I had from that time.

2 Stroke exhaust is an instant migraine headache for my wife...so it has to be as non-smelly as possible!  Plus...I love not having to mix gas...and don't want to mess with putting in all the fuel oil mixing stuff...(maybe its really easy, dunno).

Guess that's my basic logic anyway.

Want to buy a 67 v172?

It's going up for sale soon. The v6 150 is close to 400lbs and does not flea at all. Original transom too. I plan to sell it with either motor or no motor.....

Nope!  :D

I'd like to find a '82 GX-150, but I don't believe they ever made the Grey/Silver/Red color...or possibly a '76 GT-150 Bicentennial Ed.

Supposedly the story is that the GX-150 was cancelled because the bow tended to take on water and sink (if the owner buried the bow on accident).  But...it'd be a fun little 'water roadster' for 2.  A snap cover over the bow would likely help with any water over the bow, and knowing how to drive a boat is always the best defense.

Nothing will happen until next fall for sure...there's a really nice '76 gt-150 one just South of STL, but Goldie needs to be complete before I bring home another one.  And I won't bring home another project...has to be mint.

Doran,
when I had my houseboat I bought a new Merc 60 EFI Bigfoot 4 stroke. Loved it! No choke, never stalled, always ran perfect, quiet, and no smoke. Great on fuel too, and, the newer motors have bigger alternators, which comes in handy for some things. Obviously the best outboard I've ever owned, by far.

I found a project GX locally the same blue as the CVZ's we had... passed it by, had too many projects on the table. They come up here and there, but year/color specific will be a challenge. Then again, I've found some pretty rare pieces over the years.  ;)

can't explain that, other than we've found ads to be "off" before.. it was the same blue flake and very obviously original (and not very well taken care of). windshields were removed, and owner said one was smashed, I lost all hope and wrote it off at that point, figured there would be no source for replacements... also couldn't find a reason why I "needed" it at that point, but, do we really "need" a project, ever? maybe...

Nope.  A GX-150 has no room behind the drivers seat...

What do you like about the bicentennial ?

It speaks to that year and all the special celebrations that were going on.   I remember the collector 7UP cans,  the Stars n Stripes ice cream,  the 4th of July extra celebrations... all of that.

Plus,  I like the colors and upholstery.

Geesh... maybe I should just get that and be done with it.

Never seen a GX ... And have never seen one in any color but Aztec Gold.
Though about buying one but at the time the closest one (in good shape) was in Michigan, and wonder if hull has a pad or is a V ?
The one in Hastings looks to be in good shape and price is good (down to $2500 now) .

Don't know what to say about a four stroke outboard ... Are you thinking new or used ?

I'm with ya on the 1976 Bicentennial GT150, think there cool because there rare and the all white looks cool to !
