Take a close look at the engine cover on this CVX18, never see one like that. Just got off the phone with this guy, he is out in Arizona. He says that it is the way he got the boat several years ago. He is going to email me some better photos of it tomorrow because I was very interested in seeing it up close as well as the bottom side of it. Just wondering if you have ever seen one like it before. Per the ad, the boat is a 1977.

Here is the link for the Craigslist ad:

Nobody?? If you haven't see one, do you think this has been tricked out after? I'll post the other pics when I get them today.

That cover was used with OMC engines as the power trim is in the engine mounts and those raised areas are to clear the exhaust risers.

Very interesting, have never seen one of those before. Are there any members on here with one of those covers on their boat??

Yes Rich I have. Like Jason said that hood was used on the CVX/CVZ 18s built with the OMC Stringer drives that trimmed by moving the whole drive system. There was also another cover that was used for boats built w/OMC Stringer drives in the late 70's. They started using that engine cover exclusively in the mid-eighties. See Jeff R's '86 CVX18 below. Why they had 2 engines covers or changed the original cover used with the Stringer drives I'm not sure.

Any CVX/CVZ 18 fitted with a MerCruiser will have an engine cover like what is on yours or my boat up until 1984 i believe. Then there is the engine cover on the CVX18 California Special. That was the first CVX18 to get a 350 dropped in the engine bay. So that makes a total of 4 different engine covers I have seen used on theses boats.

Thanks for the explanation. In the original pic I posted last evening, looks like there are openings to let air in. Was that the case?

I'm 99% sure there isn't any openings.  That cover isn't super common, but I've seen enough to know there aren't any openings.

No problem... wouldn't it be cool to have all 3 so you could swap them out for different looks?

Same one I have on my CVZ18. As Jeff and I discussed, I am more fond of the early low profile one. I used to think the newer version was nicer but I think the lower profile goes with the lines better.

At least you don't have the big camel hump like my CVX16ss... I tried to make it a little less noticeable by adding the deck pads like the cvx18's

the problem I see with the style of the one you have in the pic with it open in the back.  If you come off the power real hard water will come up over the back of the boat and fill your bilge area with water a lot quicker.  You have to pay attention when slowing down, I know some times it is hard to avoid just to make you aware of it.  I have given people in the back seat a bath.

But Jeff the CVX18s with the lower engine cover go faster.

Cali, is that hood two separate pieces? The first classic Glastron I ever looked at was a CS CVX18. Would have loved to have gotten it. Too much of a project for me and he wanted 2K more than I would ever have given him for it.
