What do your gauges look like?
« on: May 05, 2013, 09:23:30 AM »
Just taking a quick peek at some gauges on eBay for the CVZ18 project. Getting ahead of myself but was just looking. For those of you that replaced your gauges, post a pic, would love to see what you put in. Give some feedback, likes and dislikes. Have any of you went to the multifunction gauges that have multiple displays on one footprint? There looks like some nice ones that would simplify the panel, just wondering your thoughts and experiences.

Here are the gauges in the CVZ18, was thinking two bigger multifunctions would clean that up nice seeing that it is a tight space.

Let me know.

When I get to that point on our CVZ , I am planning on installing a full set of the chesapeake black SS gauges from Faria. And then I plan on moving the switches into the vinyl trim to the right of the steering wheel.

I'm with you Rich, a couple of multi-function gauges will look nice!  As you know, I didn't like the angle the gauges sit at, which is why I changed my dash panel.

Agreed Doran, Think they did the best at the time on the dash setup. I am thinking some white faced gauges with the white and orange paint would look nice.

I did eye a pod when I was looking at that round radio...thought about putting the radio in a pod on the dash...but with the closed in windows we have on the CVZ I was concerned it would look awfully crowded.

I know you've seen mine:

Doran, what controls do you have on your boat. Maybe it was a conversation you were having in the past few weeks. Can you give me the details? I am looking for that type with the trim in the handle.

Brandon, Rich & I all run that.  I'm not sure what the model is honestly.

Here's one, I didn't pay anywhere near $100...I like it because it looks like it could have come on the boat when new:

Yep , I use the same one and love it. The one on Phoenix Rising was a NOS I found on ebay. The are for the merctroler series of control boxes used in the mid 70s. I plan on putting another on Fawkes when she is done.

I do like white face gauges but I guess it depends on the boat. I really like them in my Jade Green V163. I don'e care for the layout but I wanted to work with the holes that were already in there to the extend I could. I think I'll do something to clean it up eventually.
If you want to see a handsome dash, in my opinion, take a look at Jeff's. (CarlsonCVX18)

They are Teleflex, I got a kit like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TELEFLEX-WHITE-PREMIER-GOLD-BOAT-GAUGE-SET-7-GAUGES-I-O-INBOARD-HAS-SILVER-FUEL-/221222399695?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item3381e1eecf&vxp=mtr

But mine has the hour meter in the tach and have chrome bezels. The depth gauge I got separate. It's a Faria, it doesn't match exactly (Chrome bezel is a little larger),  but it is very close and I lucked out that it back-lit red also.

Ya Rich  I bought the same kit as Kert at that time they did not have a speedo that was higher in there kits.  Didn't want to buy a single speedo this one works ok.
