I did a comp test today it tested between 150 and 160 in all holes. The only thing I noticed was a bit of a raspy rattle evey once and a while between the bell housing and jet at Idle only like a rasp rasp nothing then rasp rasp. He said the jet bearing rebuild kit will fix that up he greases it everytime before he goes out it has a nipple he showed me where it is. What does eveyone think?
Jets are not supposed to be ran out of water at all. I do fire mine up after making electrical and mechanical changes to make sure its going to start before heading out but only for a few seconds. It might help if you stick a hose up the nozzle.
Try it in the water and see of that noise goes away. Being he has and is giving you the 300 rebuild kit, he must know it needs something.
He isn't making you commit to buy BEFORE a test run is he? Thats kinda nutz.
Ultimately the decision is yours. You could get one with the interior done down here, but its a big plus that that motor looks to be all done.
Its hard to say if its worth asking price when pricing is different in your area. It always makes it more difficult when someone else is supposedly coming to look at it too. Harder to bargain.
Looks like there are some type of exhaust silencers on there?
How does the floor check out? Any soft spots? Check the bilge area for water before and after you go out. There is a packing gland that is supposed to leak some water in. Just a drip of water maybe every 20-30 seconds I believe. It can be adjusted if its too loose or too tight.
BTW, did he tell you why he is selling?
