What would happen........
« on: May 30, 2014, 06:16:49 AM »
I was looking at this v6 Mercruiser with a customer. Based on the amount of damage I asked the question if the last time the boat was pulled from the water the drive was tilted and not lowered before storage. That is what happened, both Heads have major breaks (see photo)....the block is grenaded in the valley (below intake) and both manifolds have 5x8 inch pieces blown out.  This motor must have been FULL of water.

Having the drive up or down would not have made a difference, there would still have been water in the block and manifolds. With the drive down only the exhaust passage in the drive would have drained. Block and manifolds need to be drained separately.

Thanks for the correction, I thought with the drive tilted the exhaust system might have more water trapped than if the drive had been lowered.......I  remember something about those block drains from my fall trips to Beaver Dam....In any event we will send the exhaust manifolds in for pressure testing before we put them on the new block..................Everybody have a great weekend
