Before their time? Thought on windshield designs.
« on: June 17, 2014, 08:13:13 PM »
Case in point: http://cosprings.craigslist.org/boa/4516376613.html

Is it just me? It is said they were before their time... while I agree, they were about right on timing in comparison to muscles/rods/americana.

Although, in the reference above.... rad design really, especially for the time.... BUT.... look at the windshield and hardware.

Is it just me? Or would this boat be killing it with a CVX or at least GT windshield assembly in place?

I've been noticing this over the last couple years. sort of finally sank in.
If the boat referenced had the other style shield, it would be a 1000% improvement in my book...

Would be hard to fit a top to a CVX windshield.
Think of it as the station wagon or now days "SUV" of boats, while the CV/CVX were the sports cars / muscle cars of there day.

I think the cv windshield with the side rails would work well if they would have split/hinged it and kept that lower profile as well as tint. It would look good... at the same time though,  A camaro is a cool car but the corvette will always be a little bit cooler.

Few years ago, Glastron offered a lower, blacked out windshield as an option ...
Looked pretty cool ...

How about a Glastron windshield on a Carlson ?

I agree with Jason.  For me its one of the things I like best about the late 60's Crestflites. Its got a beefy frame and a section to open for air.
I think that CV Gregg posted doesn't look good but a decent job of making it look like it belongs, to those that don't know any better. BUT if you do decide to discard that 66 windshield, I'll be more then happy to take it off your hands or I have a 67 that is in tough shape you could buy and molest. I think Tom's is too nice for that but its your boat after all. Just my opinion.

I wanted that 71' CV SO BAD !
It was just in ruff shape, transom rot, crazed gel with spot that looked like burn marks ...
Rip the weird windshield off and it would look COOL again !

The one year only (1967) Tim Lively option is the most sought after option ...
Man ...was it groove !

After the option "Tanked" in 67' , Tim got a job in Glastron's testing department ...

I dig some of the ads they uses up through the 70's super impractical scenarios... but hey ill try anything once.  It would be cool to try to recreate some of the original shots with members boats for the 2015 calendar.

I really like the flipout style for a closed bow, I think on a  V153 model?  Rich's comes to mind.  I also think the rake of the windshield on the square-corner styles makes a difference.  On a couple of older boats I had in a previous life so to speak, the windshields did not lean back as much as my current 1980 Glastron.  The Glastron rake is much more appealing to my eyes.  I also have a larger boat, a 1991 model HydroSwift, that has the square-corner style where by that year most designers had gone to the rounded corners.  The rake of my HydroSwift is like the Glastron, and the side windows have a curve to the top rail, really fits the lines of the boat.

I found this from a time when my brother had a Sidewinder with the style ripped off from Glastron,  happened to get a pic of it with my larger boat's front end,  interesting contrast.
