Need help with what kindof boat is this.
« on: March 21, 2016, 07:15:14 PM »
Hi,i recently sold my cvx-16 and iam looking for a cvx-20 jet boat. In my search I found this boat on craigslist for cheap. The guy has it listed as a (I know this is a bad word ) Bayliner Tahiti,in the picture it looks like a Baja. It also looks like the side is almost the same as my cvx-16 was .The last picture is of my boat I just sold.I miss it and the guy I sold it to has it for sale.

Was replying then got the notice of new post, and the deueceman may have it.

My brother had a Sidewinder, 1973 model I/O, not a clone.  Differences between it and the posted pics:  It had molded in seats and the transom was not straight across, the corners went towards the front at almost 45 degrees.

They came in O/B or I/O or Jet.

Like Joe says it looks  about a 72 Bayliner.  Copycat of a 72 Carlson.  Looks like a steal for someone to rebuild for $350.  Or make it an outboard.
Boatspecs Iboats: 71 - 73
71:  This Bayliner inboard/outboard ski and wakeboard has a fiberglass hull, is 15.83 feet long and 78 inches wide at the widest point. The boat weighs approximately 1550 pounds
This boat may have come with the following or other engines :
(In the interest of safety, never exceed the manufacturer's maximum horsepower rating for your boat.)
   120 hp
   140 hp
   155 hp
73:  This outboard sports runabout is 16 feet long and weighs 725 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 80 inches. The max horsepower for this boat on our records is 105 hp

Hate to point out the obvious, but the seller has no title to either.  Anyone who has pursued a bonded title will tell you to pass unless you just want parts.

No title's a deal breaker for me. Pos in poor contition with a title is worth twice as much as somethin in fair to questionable condition without.

I don't need a title for the trailer in Wisconsin and the guy has the old registration card
. That's all you need in Wisconsin to register the boat. He will take 200.00 dollars,do you think its worth it?

If'n his name matches the one on the registration that's a major plus. Means there's a title out there somewhere with his name on it.

In FL as long as the buyer and seller are in cahoots, replacing a lost title costs 11 or 12 bucks.

If I may. This is why, in the interest of being green, I collect and 're-purpose' titles.

Though some may frown upon this practice. I think long's the original vehicle's no longer in existence. And the present vehicle ain't stolen? It's all good. State's gettin their's, and the owner's out there consuming.

Check with your courthouse.  Also with the state you're buying it at.  My 80 didn't come with a title new.  They made one for me a few yrs ago.  Old boat registration or trailer reg with a bill of sale from that owner should work.

I bring up the no title issue because I'm currently involved in a mess of one.  Nebraska laws are quite simple, if it involves fun or could be an easy process, then its just not allowed here.  Nearly everything is titled, registered, and taxed till you cry.  I bought a pontoon from a good friend in October 2015, his brother bought it new, put it on a private lake in Kansas(No title for boats state), then used it every season till his passing in 2011.  Apparently no paperwork, the MSO(manufacturers statement of origin) can not be found and it was never titled.  So boat just sits with no end in site, a title search in either state is required, but I know what the results will be.  Likely end up titling as a homemade boat.
So if you find yourself living in a state that will allow you to transfer ownership and register the boat then I am obviously envious of you.   Not certain if our laws have proven to reduce any crime/theft of boats.   $200 does sound like a steal, but as everyone who has owned boats knows, there is no more expensive boat than a free one.   Good luck in your pursuits, hope to see you out on the water.

I had the Title fight with my treasurer's office when we got Phoenix. thankfully I was able to find a loop hole to get a title something about titles must be issued for crafts not registered after 1993. Plus the title search in Pennsylvania turned up nothing.

good call Doran, that is a great website.
