Title: CVX-20 Original Wheel
Post by: catchnedge on August 04, 2019, 09:13:09 AM
I have a nice replacement wheel that Brandon sent me and am still using, but still would like to find a pristine original steering wheel like the one in the picture (smooth spokes).  The one that came with my boat has the faux wood grip separating and pieces are falling off.

If anyone happens to see an advertisement or know of one available, please let me know.

Thank you!

Ray rebuilds them ..
Maybe check with him, not sure if he can repair that style.
I have one in same shape as one you have with cracks in plastic and scratch's in spokes.
Pictures make it look better then it is …

Those wheels are rare and the last one I found for sale I posted on Facebook and it sold quickly. It needed repair and there was not enough room to repair and sell for a reasonable price. If you have one currently, just search for an auto wheel restoration shop. There are a couple around the US that do a great job. Expect to pay $300-500, but it will look new. I’m about to go down that road on a 1950’s wheel for my 10’ aluminum utility race hull with cable steering.

Thanks Gregg & Ray. Yes I do have one, but the pieces are falling off the wheel. Spokes are in perfect shape however.  I don't know if I could get myself to spend that much on a restoration, but I guess it's best to check with a shop to be sure what the cost is.  If you have a particular shop that you would recommend, could you send me the contact info?  Much appreciated.

Gregg, you may want t get some epoxy under/between the plastic on your wheel before the same thing happens to your wheel.  Your wheel looks pretty good!  Mine was cracked like thats, and I used it that way for years, but eventually it started falling apart.  I wish I would have taken steps earlier to epoxy it together or use some other method to hold it together.

Wheel is to big for my CV, my thumb hits wheel when trimming at WOT.
I'll bring it to Red Wing, see if you want it.
My new one isn't original looking but fits much better ..

Are you sure Gregg, that wheel looks pretty good on your boat?

Picture make wheel look better then it is ..
The late 90's style CVX wheel is better fit, maybe two inches smaller.
