Official CGOAMN Prop Testing Results
« on: September 16, 2009, 07:51:03 AM »
I thought this would be a good thread to start. Just a basic factual listing of your boat and the different props you have tested on your boat with results. Include your boat model, engine size, HP, GPS or non-GPS MPH, RPM’s, Prop size, material, and part number. As you test more props later on just edit your original posting to keep them all in one location. This should make a good starting point for anyone prop searching to get an idea of what to expect.

1980 CVX-20 Intimidator, 350 CID Chev - Marine Build, Mild Cam, 260+ HP

20' Length: 2250 LBS with Dry Tank

Tests Average with 13.5 Gallons (Half my 27 Gallon Tank)

14.5" X 24P SS Cleaver
63.?MPH @ 4800-5000 RPM (After polishing, straightening, and filing)
Had to really run the R's up to get the 63 to trip on the GPS but did it.....

14" X 23P SS Michigan Wheel - Standard cup
64.?MPH @ 4600 RPM,
(Wasn't able to get good water, small lake, tubers were out.... definitely over 65 with this prop)

14.?" X 25P SS Michigan Wheel - Standard Cup
59MPH @ like 4000 RPM,
was still gaining, but small lake and crap water, had to stop. So...???
Slower hole shot, but acceptable if this prop got her to say 68 or so???

The Michigan Wheels were borrowed from Formula Propeller.... but I went to Fish Lake in Maple Grove.
Shouda known better... it was ok'ish for the CV-16SS, but NOT the Intimidator. Bit much boat for the lake.

Haven't tested any other props

Good idea Jason!
You should add your length, dry weight, and test weight for others who don't know

Okay what the heck: '71 V153 w/'86 90hp Evinrude. I'm guessing it weighs around a thousand lbs fully loaded with 15 gals of fuel & my scrawny a**.

13 1/2 X 22 Lightspeed will push it 52.9 @ 6000 rpm.

13 3/4 X 23 OMC SST Overhub pushes it 54.2 @ 6200 or so.

Yes I realize I'm probably voiding the warranty by winding her up so much but she seems to like it ...?

Imo a Laser aka Lightspeed is a great prop for our kinda boats. Enough grunt to pop up a skier if necessary, and plenty of pull up top.?

48mph is the result for my top end so far on GPS. Hole shot is powerful and quick.

REALLY! Good to hear. I am surprised too. I might need to look into one of those too. Thanks for posting.
