Title: Mississippi River Cruise Sept24th
Post by: carlsoncvx18 on September 01, 2022, 12:55:02 PM
Looking for those interested in a day on the river.  Want to meet Prescott no wake at 10:30am.  Plan is to head north on the Mississippi to just below the ford dam. There is a nice sandy beech we could have lunch. If time works we could lock thru. Will find out more info on gas for those who need it. There are a couple of marinas along the way.

Please respond if your interested in going.

Jeff - Me & Joyce plan to join in, sounds like a nice run. No can do if it's raining though and the CVX18 is pretty small so I'll have to leave the other girlfriend at home! ;)

Let me know  if the dates change due to conflicts or whatever. I'll be out of town and potentially taking my boat up north that weekend. The previous weekend as I'd mentioned I'm free.

I should be able to bring the 19. I've never been up that way so that sounds like a fun day.

Nine boats at one time, nice ride, sun even came out for a wile, good conversation on the beach, and a little sprinkle on the way home? all in all a good day!    60+ miles..  only got lost once?

Looks like a great day! Bet there wasn?t too much traffic which is great. I see some lows this week in the low 30?s this week. About time to put them away.

Did it overheat and cause the head gasket to fail?    Looks like some material on the piston, pre ignition knock?

OH OH  ...
Is that a hole in center of piston ?

Yes, it?s a hole?
The rest of the cylinders look great and the other side has great compression, and the plugs are actually black so it didn?t appear to be a lean condition. So I really have no clue as to the root cause.

Ford 460 block with heads out of 1978 Glastonbury Carlson cvx-20

That?s a pretty good buy for a 460 if it?s a usable core, but it be pretty tough to put a big block Ford on a MerCruiser. I have a 454 out of a motorhome I think that?s heading towards the boat.

I guess I should?ve used wordsthe hole in the Piston is from last September. Yeah John, too much timing
I guess the point of the cryptic post was the big block sitting in the back of my truck

That's what I thought. I was a bit confused as I thought it came with a  260 sbc.

From one of your previous pictures it appeared the Merc 330 had a bravo water pump.  Same base engine I used for the intimidator project.  Peanut heads but makes lots of torque.   Should be an excellent replacement in the cruiser.  Alpha drive should survive as long as you are gentle on the throttle.
