Lake Rathbun 2023
« on: January 26, 2023, 01:20:51 PM »
Betty and I are thinking about trying Lake Rathbun for our summer boat trip this year. I've looked through some of the previous posts and see that the event is held at the Lake Rathbun Marina. I know it's early but June is almost here ( Jan. 26 and June is 4 months away). How does that happen, we just had Christmas ?  It's a bit of a haul  for us but just a little closer than Red Wing.  We would bring the camper we had at Red Wing, the CVX18 and of course Sadie. Hopefully the campgrounds are pet friendly, I couldn't find any info about pets on the Marina website. One way or the other we'll you this year.

Marina and campground are pet friendly, even though our dog isn't the most friendly.  He ate a block a mouse poison two years ago, and chased some teenagers last year.  Joe/laurie bring their dogs, but they are both super around other people.   No date has been set, marina office doesn't open till April 1st usually.   Rathbun was always the season kickoff, what weekend works for everyone?

Rathbun is a big lake and there are many places to camp, cabin, hotel at.  We liked the old campground, but once you get accustomed to having a slip, its just so much more relaxing.     We stayed at the marina hotel last year,  nice place, well kept.   They added camping spots, and it seems like positive changes every year.

We will likely pull down the 5th wheel and gt-150. Our pups are getting pretty old but they love camping/boating/traveling. Benny is 13 and Willie is turning 16!

Getting time to start giving some serious thought to Rathbun 2023.  The marina opens early April, what weekends are folks open to?   Hoping to be moved by then.

So the general consensus appears to be the 3rd weekend in June is the weekend for Rathbun 2023.    This also lands on fathers day weekend, and I cant think of a better way to spend it.   At this point unsure if camping or staying at motel.   Either way will likely opt for a slip in marina as it makes it so much more convenient.

Betty and I are in for the 3rd weekend in June. We'll be bringing the camper, the CVX and Sadie. Sadie is Very Good around people. Meet Sadie below. Is there an area at the campground that everybody congregates at? A slip for the boat is also in the plans. Looking forward to seeing you at Rathbun..

Since Joe/laurie and John/Betty are campers the goal would be that you two have adjoining sites, then the gathering campfire group area would likely be there.   Friday lunch at the resort, dinner sometime at the marina restaurant are get togethers we have done as a group.    The dog park has picnic table and have spent time there with the doggos

Just an FYI to all interested in the Rathbun Glastron meet.    Just got off the phone and made reservations in the hotel and a covered 9' x 23' slip Crappie dock, slip #7.    We arrive Wednesday morning June 14th, leaving Sunday June 18th.    The meet is very informal, most come Friday to Sunday.   There is no real defined schedule to it, Fridays at lunch we power across the lake to the resort for lunch.   Saturday afternoon on the beach watching the parade of boats on the sand point.   Saturday night has been a moonlit cruise.

We also try to eat at Louie's on the lake, the restaurant at the Marina.    They have great food, and the spinach artichoke dip is truly a yearly treat .     Rathbun Marina number is (641) 724-3212.

We just moved to the farmhouse, got an offer on the old house, selling the RV, prepping for concrete in the shop, boat hasn't been touched since winterized.    Situation normala hundred things to do.
