Title: Meet Fails
Post by: Rosscoe on August 26, 2017, 10:30:10 PM
Participate if you want. As usual, there were problems with boats. They are pretty old!

So I'll only list our 2017 issues

Taking on water. Bad bellows. Thanks Jeff, Hans and Martin and on lookers for getting this resolved before the CVX 23 ever hit the water.

Bilge pump not working. Check valve installed backwards. Thanks Jeff and Michael for help with this.

Cracked hull.  Apparently and issue with 23's? Musta hit some nasty waves. Survived 29 years until I got a hold of it. :(

You and Jeff fixed the bellows issue in the time it took me to set a tent and blow up an air mattress, quite impressive really.  My contribution was supplying some comfy carpet to lay is all.  Thanks for the advice on the bellows sealant, I'd been using the 5200 all this time, and the stuff you used seems to be the real deal.  As for the bilge pump, never seen such an issue before, but glad I could help.  I survived with no boat or trailer issues untill I got home and had an ID 10 T error.  Backed the boat in the shop in the dark and destroyed the new Bimini top.  Just welded and corrected tonight, but that is 6 hours I won't get back.  Sorry, no pictures, too embarrassed to show people.  As for the crack in your hull, is there some kind of epoxy you can inject, then gel over it?

Both my blower & bilge quick working on Friday evening.  I hit a bump and they both died...

Sorry about the hull Ross!

Boat Breakdowns at the Glastron Annual Meet?

We went three for three.
We brought three running boats to the meat, and three broken boats home.
Although, all of them did make it to weekend events on the water.
Friday night when returning from the beach the Bal Harbour started having issues  in the channel on Sturgeon Lake, the troubleshooting I did down there made it appear to be a fuel delivery problem maybe a faulty fuel pump or a pick up in the tank. Sunday morning Dan, the guy with the orange 23 towed me to the launch.
On the way back from Kinni on Saturday the GT 150 started acting up in Prescott, towed it about halfway with the 1900 then saw Jeff and got his jumper pack got it running and managed to get back to the marina, it's really hard to start, kills the battery and doesn't idle very well.
Sunday morning after we towed the GT 150 to the launch, and I started the 1900 the starter made an atrocious grinding clanking noise, so I left it running in an open slip and got it on the trailer then.

We had an issue with the Sierra coming  back from the Kinni on Saturday, just North of Prescott as I slowed down for the no-wake she popped out of gear and I could not get it to engage. Got towed back by our dock neighbors to TI and put it on the trailer, Sunday on the trailer it worked fine??? No chance to investigate the issue any further yet.

Boat is still leaking water ...
Not sure where it's coming in, can't be the drain plug ...
Will back it into water slowly, little bit at a time to see if it's the transom.
Maybe a crack under the bunk ?

There's not a lot of room between floor and hull, but was full with in a matter of minutes in No Wake / launch area.

Water coming in (bad transom). Knew about it before the meet but we wanted to bring it and meet some Glastron Folks. Thanks for all the information on repairing this 55+ year old craft. Looks like between Gordy's boat repair in Ogilvie MN and Steve's Fiberglass repair in Lincoln NE
this Glastron classic will be ready for the 2018 meet. Hope to see you there.

Minor issue with my trim pump I nearly forgot about.  The thermal breaker failed and wouldn't allow power to the trim pump motor.  Tried to fix but corroded badly.  Cut it out and put a 30 amp ATC fuse in line.  Had my trim working for Saturday's run to kini.

I had to change out the alternator in my CVX18 early Saturday.  Luckily i had  one at home (15 minutes away). Then gave myself a reason to get an urgent care/error visit in before we headed up river to join the rest of the group.

We had good luck this year. Thanks to Mike (Plugcheck) who rebuilt the carb on Kelly's 23 under the supervision of Terry & Tim (in the rain). Also Jeff & Shawn figured out the miss was crossed plug wires. It runs great now! No problems with the SSV176 & V174. It's a great group when you go home with a boat running better than when you came.

Yep.  I was glad we only saw a few heading back south.

I had an overheating issues after leaving Kinni, was towed by plugcheck, Michael, about 3 miles to the public boat ramp in Prescott, then loaded on my trailer that Nancy had pulled from TI. Other than  that, still had an awesome 3 days of boating, logging over 170 miles on the 2 rivers!

Interesting. Did we go right by you? I thought mike and I left at the same time.

We had good luck this year for once. Although I did help out one of the unfortunate with a tow to Prescott. But that's how it goes. All of you with bad luck this year will be towing us next year.

Jason, Vance and I watched most of you guys go by us, just happened to be on the other side of the river!  I was anchored about a hundred feet from the south shore, everyone else was running down the north side of the river.  Eventually Shawn, Tim C and Jeff came by as we were being towed by Michael. And btw, I called and asked him to gives us a tow

I did leave at the same time from Kini, and followed you most of the way, figured that to be the safest way, but broke off as I needed to be on the other side to locate Terry/Vance.   Always good to have a cellphone to call for help.  A bit of rough water on the St Croix, some of which was caused by folks on plane right next to us.

Good deal. I like to run down the west side of the river. Seems a bit calmer. Sorry I missed you. The cell phone list is a big help.
