Title: CGOAMN at the 2012 Minneapolis Boat Show?
Post by: ChfBrianB on November 28, 2011, 07:45:05 PM
Greetings friends,

I'm happy to tell you about a 1st time opportunity for our club.  I have been offered space in Lobby B of the minneapolis Convention center during the January 19-21st annual boat show.

At this point I need to get back to the event planner to let her know if we would like to take her up on the offer of space.   I haven't done any research as to where Lobby B is, but maybe someone could dig up a facility map.

I'm thinking that 3-4 boats and some high quality Public Relations material would be perfect.

Is anyone interested???  Are there cantidates for the show that would be willing to bring their boats to Minneapolis in January?  There are many fine cantidates for the show, so please let me know asap if you might be interested.  If we decide that we want to be involved, we would need to make a strong presence at the show with our members as well.  It would be ideal if we could have at least 2 members present at all times throughout.

THOUGHTS???  It's up to you!  (As a side note, this might be a good "foot in the door" for bigger things.  Please think BIG picture for the welfare of the club rather than just about this one event alone.)

Here is the website http://www.minneapolisboatshow.com/ (http://www.minneapolisboatshow.com/)

This is very cool!  I would make the trip back up to see the boat show, specially if you are going to have a booth there.  I would gladly donate my time to man the booth let alone make up any stickers or pamphlets to hand out.  Another shirt maybe?  There are so many great boats in the club, would love to volunteer a few but that is hardly my place.

I'll man the booth for a day or two.
Don't think my CV would be a good choose to display though ...

I also would help in participation of manning to booth.

Thinking of boats I know most people have them winterized and put away.

But here is a few that could qualify as show examples

Jason Smith cv16ss
Dave P v153 Ya i know Dave its way down south
Scott E cvx20 jet we would have to get the interior back in
Kips cvx18
Shaun P cv16ss
Steve A cv16
Mike B cv27

I would not mind showing either one my boat. But it's all going to depend on how much snow we will have and if I can get to the garage to get them out. Last year would not have worked but so far this year is dry.

I can do man the booth for a day or two.

Do you know if they will have a spot their to wash off the boats after dragging them down there?

I too would be willing to man the booth, but the question is can we make a committment for two to three boats now not knowing the weather conditions at the time of the boat show mid to late January of 2012?

Jeff's CVX 18 is another top candidate for the show.

My boat is just south of Northfield in a pole barn and I have no idea if other boats are in front of it. Best if I did not commit my boat.

Toni and I would be happy to man the booth and as an added bonus my son could do the shirts as that is his business, he would supply all the shirts and upfront money and share the profits with the club. Tom

Jeffs boat is in the Glastron cave along with mine. Maybe i'll just have to try and keep the yard plowed.

Jason's and Jeff's boats, both in pristine condition, are worthy show pieces. It would have been nice to have a Glastron with a classic outboard motor on it too.

I told Tim (still fishin) that Jeff and I would come over and buff, polish and shine his CVX18 if he put it in the show ...
He liked the idea until I told him we could let people ... and kids sit in his boat for photo shoots ...
Guess I shouldn't have told him that part ... LOL

Pretty sure theres a place by venders enterance with water/hoses to wash boats, trailers.

I know from talking with Scott from Tanners S&C that it's a huge deal for dealers with boats & yacht, displays, etc, etc ...
I think we would need more then a few guys to get every thing done with two or three boats.

I can help out as well. I can help clean, prep, man the booth what ever to help. I have both my boats in Osceola they were the last into the shed but not sure if it gets plowed so there is access to them in the winter. Let me know and I can find out. I would have some work to do on mine as well to be showroom condition. Just New carpet and a little more buffing. O and my trailer really needs to be sand blasted and painted. All could be done would just need to know soon.

Ok...  So we have a good response for people to be in attendance at the show...  I would like to move forward, but I feel like we need to be able to commit a few boats.  The Silver Fox would have been there, but that's not very possible now...  :(

Is anyone willing to try to get a commitment from 3-4 boat owners in the club?   I think that we would have to send some e-mails and make some phone calls.  Sure would love to have a CV-27 there!!!

I want to get back to the event planner ASAP, but It would be a pretty boring booth is it was just a bunch of guys standing around!  :)

Anyone interested in drumming up the boats?

I'll gladly help man a booth, clean boats or whatever, we can put my boat in but I don't think that a V-184 is a good eye catcher.

Shawn we got 2 snow blowers now we can get your CV-16 out of there if we need to.  It might hamper brewing for a while though.

I will commit to to getting my CV16SS to the show one way or another and plan on being at the show for at least one full day and maybe another evening.

Would be really nice to get a jet at the show. Tom V, if you can get the CV19SS at the show we could even throw a for sale sign on it.

Outstanding Brian! Very cool. Way to go for signing up Jason, your boat deserves to be there anyway.

What 3 or 4 boats would be most appropriate? Hmm. Reckon ya could sit here all day and argue over that.

I'd say blind side 'em with CVs & CVXs ...?

I agree. It's the tyoe if boat that people will say "that's the same boat we had when i was a kid". Same with Greggs old Trihull. That would have been perfect for the show too.

Thanks for the kind words about my V-153. If circumstances were different, I would show the boat. The boat is stored in Nerstrand, MN in a farm couple's pole barn. Their rent for the winter season is dirt cheap and I would feel badly asking them to both pull my boat out and put it back in.

I could help man and clean too but it sounds like there are a lot of volunteers for that already and none of my boats are of show caliber. If we didnt get a jet, I would have considered bringing the 175 as long as no one opened the engine bay.  :D

All of this is really great everyone!  Thanks so much for the support and great responses!

At this point, I have two boats committed for certain...

We have Jason's CV-16ss in metal flake green, and we have a returning member Jesse Gully bringing his Champagne and Beige metalflake CVX-20 Deluxe.  I would also like to consider Jason's V-174 as a great representation of the glastron line. I think that we have Jeff's CVX-18 as well.

I know that Scott's CVX-20 is an option as well, and we need to see about getting the interior back together, so we can look at that great boat as a back-up depending on the pit crew progress.  Jerry Sellner has offered his Corinthian and a 76 GT-160 as well.

This is a great start, a great, color spectrum, and a good representation of many of the designs and drive options.  I'm still open to other cantidates as well.  I'm waiting to hear what space we have and what our limitations are.

I'll be making a list of the people that are willing to man a booth, and I'll get that roster going asap.  I'll let you know where there are holes.  Obviously, Saturday from open to close is going to be the big day as well as the setup day.

Those of you that have resources, please beginworking on them...  We need to consider fabric to cover trailers that to not want to be displayed, banners, easels, pamphlets, etc...

Would anyone like to be in charge of any of these aspects?

This is going to be a great event!

Good to hear Brian. Looks like we are off to a great start.

I don't have a problem dragging the V172 down there too but would need a second tow vehicle and driver. If Jeff is willing to show his boat too it won't be a problem getting it out of the Glastron cave.

Here are the open hours of the show:

Thursday, January 19 ....12pm?9pm
Friday, January 20 .........12pm?9pm
Saturday, January 21 .....10am?9pm
Sunday, January 22 .......10am?5pm

I will for sure not be available thursday or Friday during the daytime. I would prefer to be there Sunday and can be there all day. That way i am hoping I can drag at least one boat back home with me.

I have Thursdays off from work and would be able to do that day if no one else want it. Also we need to know available set up times from the Mpls Convention Center. There must be at least Wednesday before the opening day for set up, plus Thursday morning before the show starts at 12 noon.

Tim

I think if you are willing to bring your CVX18 to the show, yours is a much better example than mine is .

Also I have to do a new axle on my trailer before it is moved.

So gets yours ready for the show and I will keep Gregg either tied up with double knots or in hand cuffs when you are not there.

Talked to some guys at Tanners when I went in there for some parts. Sounds like they schedule a time when you can bring your boats in. I guess it's REALLY organized. Same with bringing your boats home. A lot of the boats will be scheduled to be brought to the show 4 days before the start of the show. There is a place to wash the boats and trailers as you bring them in. Security is really good and they have never had any problems with hooligans.

My '72 GT-150 could be available. It was showed two years ago at the Wisconsin Wheels and Wings event and was a finalist. It was themed under the James Bond movie with a 007 movie poster and a history of the movie production was displayed with the boat. (Inside the boat a looping CD played the music from the movie!) Drew a lot of visitors.

I'll try to work on something for a roster this weekend.  Just got done with an extremely busy stretch at work.  As far as the boats go, I don't like being the only one making a decision.

Please help by getting started on promotional stuff...

Honestly, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by this project.  I love it, and I can't wait to be a part of the show, but I really don't know where to start.  Jerry Sellner is more of a pro than I am since the TCPBA has been there for 25 years...

Any thoughts?

It's going to be difficult to commit to what boats we want there until we know how big of a space we have.

I would like to see a mix with 2 or 3 'Family Boats' from the 60's & 70's.
I think this would be more appealing to the Glastron people, "Family boating since 1950's"

Looks like we have more then enough boat's available for the show. I think pulling off the volunteers for the show is not going to be a problem either. So all we need are the details from the boat show.

How many boats can we bring?
When can we bring them and pick them up?
Any required responsibilities?
Any costs to club members?

Don't worry to much about promotional things Brian. If we have business cards or a bunch of printed flyers. I think that would be good enough for handouts. The big banner you use at the club meet would be nice to have at the show. Maybe we can order a bunch of T-shirts for the volunteers.

If people want to cover up their trailer with fabric or take their boat off their trailer and put it on a display stand that will be up to the boat owner.

So if you could present those questions above to the boat show that is all we need from you at the moment. If we take to long they will look for someone else to take our spot.

We have a section of floor space that is 20'x40'.  Realisticly we can bring 4-5 boats based upon their length and how we can lay them out in the room.

There is no charge to the club for our space.

The only responsibility that we have is to have someone present at all times when the show is open.

I just got an e-mail from Jennifer today with more info that I haven't been able to unpack yet.  She also invited me and other representatives from the club to come out and take a tour of the space...  That might be helpful.

I just went through the info that she sent...  We are in a prime location in the Lobby of entrance B.  It's going to be a lobby with a ticket booth, so it appears to be a fairly high traffic area.  It's right inside the main entrance on the 3rd Ave street level entrance.

I will be filling out the contracts this weekend and will be meeting with her on Tuesday or Wednesday to go down and see the space.

I'll let you know what time in case anyone wants to join me.

I don't have info yet on setup dates, but I'll get that asap.

Thanks for the encouragment everyone.

What have we decided on the boats to bring?  That orange GT-150 looks like it's already been in the shows and that would be great!  Jesse Gully is very excited about bringing his CVX-20, and Jason's CV-16ss would be great...  There are so many options, it's hard to choose...  I need the group to help with this decision.  I say we need to plan on 4 or 5 boats.

I vote to form a nomination committee of Brain, Jason, Jim Barrett, and Jeff to decide between themselves the boats to be shown and to contact the owners to see if they are willing. Perhaps these same people can work out the details of that needs to be done and contact people they need outside of their group. We had someone knowledgeable about displays and people willing to man the booth. Perhaps an artist to design posters, business cards made to hand out for the MCGOA, and a contribution fund set up for this event.

Maybe just Brian and Jason to make the choose of which boats to bring, but first we need to know who is willing and able to bring there boats.
Maybe just three or four boats sence we don't know how much work it will take to set this all up ...
Should some one start a thread of people/boats willing to display ?

Scott is on the fence right now ???

We have the windshield and deck hardware back but waiting to hear if it's wanted for the show.
The floor is bad under the rear seat but is hidden when seat is in place.
We could finish putting it back together for the show but if it's not wanted we will leave it and start on the floor.

I agree about Scott's boat being in the show. It is probably the bext example of an original condition CVX20 Jet in the club. I would like to give him the option to show his boat. If not I think Jesse's would be great to have at the show.

Gregg's former boat V-156 with the 60 HP Johnson would have been a natural - very popular boat and motor and Gregg stores his in the garage. I would like to show mine, but the logistics are too great to overcome. I can show props and outboards on motor stands. LOL.

I am certainly willing and able to put my boat in the show.  It would only need about 4 hours of time from Jim and I, and it would be good as new.  So if the club votes that direction, we will get it ready.

Update!

I've been informed that we have been upgraded to the main show floor!  We have been upgraded to a 30'x40' space (203a).  We will be positioned directly in front of a 45'  offshore racing boat that is a show feature.

This means that we are now able to bring more boats.  Can someone do a layout and see how many will fit in that space?

That is good news. My Glastron Cave is 26 x 36. Depending on how much we want to squish them in to that size.......I'd say 4. 3 in a row then one perpendicular to those three if we want room to move around.

Sounds like things are coming together for the boat show. I have the orange '72 GT-150 that's under consideration. Key info needed is when the boats have to check in as that means scheduling time off from work. And, it appears that check-in time can be several days before the event.

If any one has more details, e-mail me at ThormanG@aol.com.

(Also, my name on this web site is GT, but Glyn Thorman is the rest! No more need to use _____:GT-150 :)

Ok, I have received a few inquisitive emails as I am sharing the responsibility of organizing this event.  I have talked with a few others and came up with a preliminary list.  The official word from Jennifer is that our spot can accommodate up to 6 boats.  The preliminary list has 5 boats so there is extra room to walk around an perhaps set up a table.  The list; Jason's V-172, Shawn's CV-16ss, Glyn's GT150, Tim's CVX-18, and Scott's CVX-20. I know Jesse has expressed interest in showing his CVX-20 and Jerry S's corinthian has been mentioned also.  IF YOUR NAME IS ON THE LIST please either post here or contact me so I know if you can make it or not, boats will need to arrive wed the 18th and leave sunday after 6pm.  I would like to have a final list by this time next week so we can work on other details.

I will go get my Boat this weekend and Give it another quick buff. I will need to cover my trailer or take the boat off of it. I never had a chance to get it blasted and painted. Also I have a heated 2 car garage if anyone else needs to bring a boat over to get it ready. It is set up pretty much for what ever you need. Lots of tools and a large compressor. Can only fit prob one at a time in there but it is always 70 degrees. Also let me know about the printing if we want to get anything done. I can get some prices if we have an idea what we want.

Anyone know where to get carpet I am thinking I may replace that before the show.

Brian did his CV16SS with carpet from home depot. I think the carpet in his CVX20 came from there too. Actually looked really nice.

I think we should come up with some kind of hand out for people. Maybe just a simple 2-fold (8-1/2 x 11) handout. Has some pictures, club info, maybe a little on the history of Glastron.

Would be kind of neat to have our DVD playing from the 2009 meet.

If someone could put something together and email it to me that would be great. I agree a TV set up playing the videos would be a great Idea.
Does someone have fabric to cover the trailer or should I get some? Do they have stands that we could use? How do we get the Boat off the Trailer if we go that route?
I am also available to help if anyone needs help getting their boat ready. Mine will get another good buff and I will be repainting the lower unit.(It is pretty stained.)

Hi folks

Could use some help. I travel every week to Houston, leaving on Sundays and coming home Thur night. I can bring the boat in to the cities the previous Fri/Sat if someone could get it to the show on Wednesday. It doesn't have to be stored inside and should be ready to go as long as the roads aren't slushy on Wednesday. If this won't work, I can take a weeks vacation too (I can't take a partial week off is the problem).

Thanks
Glyn T.

It would be nice to put them on a stand. We are completely on our own when it comes to that. The marinas use roller trailers and just roll them off the trailers on to stands. I have a bunk trailer so that is not gonna happen. If you got rollers we could figure something out. Oh, there won't be anywhere to keep your trailer there, you would need to bring it home....Good time for sandblasting and painting!

The back half of my trailer is roller. So we could probably get it off would just take a few people. Does any one have stands? Or am I going to need to buy some Jack stands and weld some larger pads on them.

Some one bring a boat that we can polish up.  It would give everyone an idea of what can be done with an older boat.  Do half of a deck and the case of buffing compounds will sell them selves!

Regarding the boat trailers, an idea would be to take a wheel off of one side only so that it is lower, tilted and easier for people to look into the boat.

My two cents. Although Scotts CVX would be a great candidate, putting it back together then having to take it apart to do the floor again might be a bit of a hassle?

Also, my shop is 30x40 and I think more then 4 boats in that space would be getting crowded but one could be turned. Especially if its behind 2 shorter ones like the GT and a CV16. Putting them on stands would be nice so you wouldnt have a trailer tonge sticking out but again, how tough and pratical is it? I dont know.
The removing one wheel is a great idea if left on the trailer. Can we rest the axel on a piece of wood or use jack stands? I have 4 plus numerous jacks.
So who is taking the lead on printed material and what will we do? Anyone and everyone that can make it to the first breakfast top hammer out these details should really try to make it. I have no idea as to how to create a brochure but agree with the style Jason suggested.

PS Hi Glyn. I am right across the river from you. Across from Dresser in Mn. At this point I can not commit to helping out with the transport of your GT.

I live in White Bear you could drop it off at my house. I am sure I could get it over there I need to bring mine down there anyway. Probably  have my neighbor follow me down there with your boat. I just don't know if I could get it inside until we bring it down to the show should fit in my parking space in the garage Let me know.

Shawn, If  You  have to get yours anyway in Osele  I could probably follow you up with my truck and pick this one up too, pending my truck doesn't get stolen again like last time we moved boats.

we could keep one in my garage for a couple days until it needs to be at the show.

Great! This sounds like we can make the shuffling work. Depending on the weather, either anytime Friday, anytime Saturday or Sunday afternoon could work (Jan 13/14/15). I changed my flight plans for the following week (I fly to work every week) so I can pick the boat up Sunday Jan 22 after 6pm at the show.
I can also work the show anytime Fri/Sat/Sun.

Do we a single point contact from the club who's organizing the event? I need to know if the 007 movie poster and the fact sheet on making the movie with Glastrons can be displayed. (see below)

 The list; Jason's V-172, Shawn's CV-16ss, Glyn's GT150, Tim's CVX-18, and Scott's CVX-20.

I think the last time I talked to Sean, it sounded like everyone could make it on this list.

Glyn: Sean (76bayflite) is organizing this event. Please contact him with questions or post here.
Yes! Bring your signs! Those are really neat. In fact, I would love to know where you had those made. It would be nice to get something made for every boat at the show.

The movie poster came from on-line, the fact sheet I created from a discussion with the Ian Fleming Foundation on facts fom the movie, Live and Let Die. A plotter printer created the text in poster size. I also have a poster creation of the GT dong the jump scene from the movie. (see attachment) And one more film photo with a GT-150 that's cool...

I've found that text/photo facts make an exhibit 10x better in reception and readership from the viewer. People love to relate the (boat) they are seeing to history and facts. I've won numerous exhibits by tying in the item, with photos and facts. The public loves it!

Kinko's can do plotter printer creations for $. Many industrial plants have plotter printers that employees can run off for about nothing with permission as a "government job". Just a plain .jpg or word document can be printed. My prints were about 24" x 36" and then placed into a (cheap) frame. They look good. A couple $10 tri-pods finished the exhibit piece. (A $6,000 boat will beat a $100,000 Ferrari everytime. :)

If no one minds I would like to put a small advertisement on the back page of the handout for my agency. I will pay for all costs of printing. Does anyone have a good idea or possibly something put together that we could use. I was thinking some smaller facts as well as history with a few photos. Maybe also mention the summer Meet in Redwing. Do we have dates for it yet? Also web addresses for the MN chapeter site as well as Iowa and the main Classic Glastron site. Let me know thought or ideas.

Not sure if I am going to take it off the trailer what do you think? I think if we have a few people we could. My trailer doesn't look the best so I would have to at least cover it up. Let me know your thoughts I was thinking I would build a couple stands for it. Is anyone else taking their boat off the trailer? How do we move the boats around inside because if we can't hook the trailer up to something might be a little more difficult.

I think we should just leave them on the trailers. Most people will be distracted by the metal flake anyway! My trailer is far from great. They Are old boats what do people expect. Unless we have a platform with wheels to roll it onto it will be real tuff. I plan to leave both wheels on and lay the toung of the trailer on the ground to get it a little lower. I might find some cheap black fabric to cover it all up.

Brochure looks good. A couple of points:

1. If you reference the Red Wing event by date, the brochures will be obsolete after that point. Maybe better to stay generic about it. That said, maybe 750/1000 brochures would be a better number. If we actively hand them out, it will be easy to go through that many. If we use them sparingly, or by request, then a few 100 would do.

2. History note. The GT-150 doing the 007 jump is a 1972 model, not 1973. The filming was done in October 1972 using 1972 boats but the film was released in 1973.

I think keeping your boat on the trailer and covering the trailer up if you'd like would be the best option.  I also agree with Jason about putting the picture from 2010 (above) on the front.  300 should be a good number for fliers because if we actively hand them out I think a good number of them will end up on the floor or in the trash.  If we hand them out when people seem interested 50 thur, 50 fri, 100 sat, and 100 sun should work pretty well.

Go to Michael's the fabric is cheep, that will cover the boats up pretty well, might even be able to find glastron emblems on it for future use.

I changed the pic to the one posted. I am thinking that I will leave the Date on there unless we think it should be taken off. I have the original and my uncle is going to print them for me. If any one would like a copy, I made it in Microsoft Word so I can email it to anyone and they could print a few if they wanted to promote their event or chapter as well as change the date.

I picked up a 15 yards of black fleece from Hancock fabrics in woodbury. It was 70% off and will be till the 11th. $35 for it all. That should help pretty up my boat!

I have permission to bring our convention style display board and we can hang pictures from it.
It's about 8' X 10' and if the pics have a little strip on velcro on the back they will stick to the upholstery.
I will try to bring it to breakfast Saturday for approval.

Just a "heads up", you guys might want to hang fenders on your boats on display.  The Atlanta Boat Show opened yesterday, and right before the doors were scheduled to open, one of the "Wakeboard Demo Tanks" broke and released 200,000 gals (?) of water onto the convention center floor in a hurry!  Needless to say, the opening was delayed while they cleaned up the mess, put displays and boats back where they belonged, etc...... :o

Just kidding about the fenders, the odds of that happening again are astronomical I'm sure, but can you imagine the havoc that created???

If you are bringing your boat to the show and would like one or 2 for your boat let me know what color you would like and I will cut them and bring them tomorrow (WED). click on link below and pic will show up

Title: Re: CGOAMN at the 2012 Minneapolis Boat Show?

.odt is usually from OpenOffice or StarOffice.
.docx is M$'s new closed proprietary format used in Office 2007 and newer.

.doc became ubiquitous so M$ couldn't control its feature set as much anymore, so they had to come up with a new one...the  'x' in doc'x' means that is supports .xml coding standards...its still 'open'...just not really when the lawyers get involved.

The 'cliffs notes version' is that it needs to be saved as type .doc, or exported as a .doc file, which OpenOffice can do.  The rest of us won't be able to read it otherwise.

Now...I'm just guessing on the file type...google says its a OO (OpenOffice) file type, so I'm going with that.

I've not had any reason to check the volunteer manning schedule, but a happy FYI from Lake Rathbun, IA ... I'm driving up on Saturday for the boat show.  Booked a little room just a block or two from the convention center so I can park at the hotel and walk over.  I'm excited to meet some of you guys and check out the boats ... especially the GT.  I have a feeling I'll be leaving there with some flake-envy, but that's a good thing.  Taking my daughter with me, she'll enjoy checking some of the boats out & having her picture taken on a few.

Cheers!

We'll see how the weather shapes up.  We're supposed to get 3-4 inches on Friday, and that would be a difficult trip if that turns out to be true.

Friday Show:

Lots of traffic. It was fun to watch the show attendees walk up to the display, get a big smile and say, "I remember grandpa had one of these at the cabin!"  (Grandpa??)

Met Terry the Glastron company guy. Been with Glastron since 1973. Is now the company unofficial historian and sales rep. Showed off the new limited edition GT-160. Sweet boat. Four versions, only 55 of each and serial numbered. About $25k and water ready. Said he wants us to be located by the Glastron display next year.

Several comp tickets available if you need one.

Everyone did a great job. Display looks outstanding. Sat is suppose to be the BIG day. This should be a 'must do' every year for the club to raise awareness and new members.

I had a great time at the show last night. The set up looks even better in person. A lot of people with memorys of Glastrons from their youth. Several ex-dealers have stopped by too with interesting storys.
If we do this again and its possible, being next to or intermingled with the new Glastrons would be cool. Looking forward to being able to walk around some today and check out some of the unaffordable/overpriced boats there.  :o
I have a feeling that any non members who are planning on selling a Glastron and have now discovered us will be raising the prices of their boats. :P
PS, A reminder to Jeff to talk to Jason about Express Composites.

Thanks for all the effort.  The booth looked really good.  I spent some time checking out the new Glastrons and spoke with Terry as well.  There is a high desire to have the CGOA included with Glastron at next year's event.  There's no question that 40 year old boats looking as good as the one's in the CGOA booth will provide immeasurable marketing value to the new Glastrons ... every salesman is going to say "Look how good our boats hold up after 40 years."    ...  If I were running G'tron's marketing department, I'd sure consider picking up the tab for an adjacent booth just to guarantee placement & not wait to see if the show is giving next year's space away.

It was nice to meet the guys that were there.  Thanks again.

A big thank you to all those who made the CGOAMN exhibit possible this year on late notice. Jason for major work on his V-172, Sean for overseeing the whole operation, for Amy who cut out the white letters and other things, for those who got Scott's boat ready, for others who got their boats in shape, for those who hauled their boats to and from the Mpls Convention Center, for those who manned the exhibit, for Brain B who had the initial contact, and many others not mentioned here by name.

If we have advance notice of our inclusion in next year's show, more boats would be available for selection. We have enough mint condition Glastrons to show 5 new ones next year. We could sell Glastron calendars and T-shirts and post pictures of the each member's boat.

Sunday night...

Got our boats out FIRST. The show people were great and our location was, "Let's get that Glastron display out first!" My wife sweet talked her way through 3 security people even the one who said, "Lady, everybody wants to be first in line!". But he let her through and we were out by 6pm. (Most boats take hours to get out.) Many thanks to Shawn and Brian for getting my boat to the show to start with.

I'm in the house now after spending an hour with a garden hose outside and 20 degrees with my wife holding the flood light to hose down the boat and trailer after 60 miles of road slop. 007 is ready to go back to winter sleep time!

Everyones excited about next year and the chance to do something with Glastron Inc. The space we had is worth $4,500 but the show people recognize that the exhibit was a crowd pleaser and hopefully will want us again. If we continue to add to the show visitor's experience, we may well get to come back on a pro-bona basis and hopefully next to the new Glastrons.

It was a pleasure to work with all of you.

Glyn and Cindy Thorman

PS: I seem to have acquired a battery charger and (now this is really strange) a DVD remote that was laying behind our car in the driveway! Let me know if you are the owner of either.

We might also consider an antique summer boat show in conjunction with other groups. Alot less work with a summer show. Actually, we have the summer boat show in Red Wing, but we might have certain hours in which the boats are on display (in the water and out of the water) and the owners nearby to answer quesions. Just some thoughts.

Many thanks for all the help, and a huge thank you to Jim B. for hauling my boat home last night in the slop and getting it back safely in the garage.  I would probably still be taking runs at the driveway if it wasn't for Jim.  I think I speak for all in the club, that Jim is an outstanding person in every way.

Hey Guys,

Very, very cool!

We had somewhat the same experience in Europe last winter. We had the privilege to show three boats at the Hanseboot Show in Hamburg, Germany.
We also had space for free and Aaron made the stand.

I can say we had the same kind of responses from the people. Some said it was the nicest thing of the show.
The organization promised us a larger area on a better location for next year.
I don't have many fancy pictures, but here are some for an impression.

Hey, Cor!

Welcome from Minnesota.  It's nice to see your boat again.  When I need a fix, I'll watch your video to hear that Olds rumble.

I hope your event was as fun as ours!

Hi,

It was a very nice event, but yours was bigger and more audience as seen on the photo's. But it's great to learn that many people don't really like to look at all the new stuff stacked together on the show and saw these Carlson's as something totally different and cool.

I can't wait for the summer to arrive again and hear the Bigblock come alive! It's a Chevy 454 though instead of an olds. ;)

Cor

Stellar job!  Your CGOAMN display sparkled like new, and no doubt was a reflection of all your hard work to prepare.

Pat yourselves on the back.  Job well done!

I've noticed a ton of additional guests on the site lately, must be interested visitors from the show.

As I've said elsewhere, it was a great time and a very positive response from all that stopped by. Very interesting chatting with all those people.

Talked to your BFF (PeeWee) this morning ...
Said your boat & trailer looked great !
Think he was impressed with all the G/C in the display.

Does anybody remember the name of the Glastron Rep. That mention that he would like us there next year?

I was hoping to contact him in regards to the Red Wing meet in August and see if Glastron Corp. would be interested in helping out in any way.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jeff

That rep is the same rep for the Glastron dealer on Coralville Lake right up by Iowa City ... if all else fails, we can go through that dealer (Coralville Marina) to get to him.

He was interested in Rathbun, too ... dealer even thought they'd send a new model down on Friday and pick it up Sunday.  Seemed I was working that angle too far in advance, but the interest was there.

I met him at the show and he gave me his card and the possibility to join forces next year. He's been with Glastron since 1971.
