Cardboard found...interior mock up
« on: March 21, 2012, 12:26:21 AM »
Ok...found cardboard...rough & ugly mockup...but you'll get the idea.  I wanted to get the feel if a CV-16/CV-19 style interior, that would continue into a u-shaped bench flowing around to the port side seats would be a possibility.  (Already discovered that the seats would need to be higher up.)

I think it *could* work, but does feel like it could get a little cramped.  I like the idea of sitting on the backrest occasionally and it gives the spotter a way to comfortably sit backwards.

I like the gunwale support/storage, but I'm still working on the positioning of the controls.  I'd like it higher, but that means cutting the fiberglass to raise it higher...

Had I known that's what you were doing, I would have said foam core.  In large sizes, you can find it at several places for not very much money.

Pretty cool idea on the seat "mock ups" Doran, that may come in handy when it comes time to do the seats/interior on the GT!  I may try the cardboard first, then switch to foam as you suggest Dan.  Good info!

Honestly Jerry, I may go that route.  I've had pedestals tear out of the floor over time, so I'd like a more solid base.

So you don't think you'll have enough room to do the rear U shaped seating ?
Good idea on the cardboard seats ... Never thought of that ..

Yeah, its the CV-16 sizes with some of the CV-19 measurements for height that you posted a while ago.

I actually do think it'll work...just have to make some adjustments...

Plywood covered with fiberglass.

That's my plan for the "real deal" build Jerry, but checking size and layout like Doran did would be nice.  (I don't have the experience you guys do, it would be great to make adjustments before beginning fabrication.)   ;)

I bought four of the nicer "jump seats" made by Wise during the off-season (reads-cheap!) just to use the seat bottoms and back rests (cushions), planning on building a base like this to mount them to.  Like a "lounge seat" that doesn't recline, but has storage underneath.?

Sorry D, didn't mean to wander off with your thread.......

Mark - You're not wandering off...I have always mocked up my projects before I cut any real wood.  Then I can just trace templates and get it right the first time.

I can measure, plan and eyeball with the best of them...but until I actually see it in the space...I'm never 100% sure I want to go with something.

So...I mock it up, change it tape it back together, etc.

Can someone with a CVX-18 tell me how high their rear bench base is?  Floor to bottom of the cushion is what I'm after.  (Or floor to top of base...)

My measurements are not including the 1/2" plywood for the cushion.  Front of seat is 10, back is 9. Hope this helps.

Cardboard to reality...I have some adjustments to make yet.  Level the seats and decide on the normal bench or U-Shaped bench.
