Any idea what this is?
« on: May 17, 2011, 07:18:09 PM »
Got this from Jeff ...

Gregg do you have any idea what this is?
Could you post it on the cgomn site with that question?
One of the supervisiors at work (my neighbor) his brother aquired it as a purchase of a cottage on Gull Lake.  He is going to sell it.  The motor was overhauled in 96 and has been ran since. Boat was put away in 96 in storage (garage).

Not sure on the boat, but if you get the first three letters from the serial number we could tell ya.
I do know that if the motor really is an XS it's one cool motor !
Serial number on motor will tell forsure ...

the back end of that thing looks an awful lot like a Sleekcraft, but the nose just looks a little off. of course, there were alot of boats that style in that era...

Is the data plate still there?  Look under the dash around the gauges to see if a build or color trim sheet was overlaid with resin. I found mine on the CVX 16 when I was under the dash performing the re-wire job. Either of those would tell you the manufacturer.

It does look like a Sleek Craft at the rear. Sleek Crafts typically had a point on the bow that would split wood.  My dad had one with a 454 in it for a short season. Mom would not set foot in that boat after the first ride. Ended up with a 18 foot Arrowglass bow rider with a 165 hp Mercruiser.  That was about 77 or 78.

Rayson Craft. Note the slight dip above the rub rail part at the front passsenger area in both the actual picture and catalog picture.  Rayson Craft better known for their inboards than outboards.

Good call David.  I was going to suggest, if you need anything "non-G-tron" identified, the gang over on FiberGlassics is pretty good at it.  ;)

"... Built to handle any outboard motor regardless of size & power" Now that's my kinda boat! Like the left hand helm(s) in the ad too. Is that Elvis in the first pic?

Upon closer scrutiny of the pics I have reached two conclusions. 1) Not Elvis. 2) Probably a Rayson but a different perhaps newer model? See the splashwell. No splashwell in company pics.
