« on: May 18, 2011, 09:38:54 PM »
Dave and I are heading out to WBL tomorrow afternoon for some play time on the water. if you want to join head on over. Dave will be around at 2, i'll get there at 4.

I'm bringing the V172 and a couple props to try out.

Have not been on White Bear Lake for years. Kinda know what areas to avoid because of the low water level. Should be fun. Will be prop testing with the handheld Garmin GPS. There will be other prop testing days I am sure.

Dare I bring the boat out by myself? Mike won't get off until 6 or so, but we just bought a house on White Bear Lake near the south edge (haven't got the dock out yet though, too much moving), I'll come down to the lake and see if I can make out any Glastrons! Maybe I'll bring her out for the year if I muster up the courage, I bet Mike would be bummed if I don't wait for him though..

Scott, by all means come out. Our base headquarters is the Ramsey County beach and parking lot. I should be there by 2:45 to 3 PM, Jason will be by at 4 PM. Should be a good shakedown. My cell is 612-363-3704

............but we just bought a house on White Bear Lake near the south edge ............

Seriously!? That's awesome. Adventually the water level will come back up on that lake and so will the property values. Perfect time to buy on WBL. We'll keep an eye out for you Scott.

Brian may show up too for a ride. He's busy with work but is gonna try and make it for a quick ride.

White Bear Lake was perfect! I hope it keeps up it's bad reputation for busting props to keep everyone else off! At least now you can see the rocks that everyone busted their props on. Plus they pretty well have the shallow zones marked.

Had a good time guys. I didn't get a picture of Scott's boat but it sure looked nice for just coming out of the garage from the winter!

I got to do some testing on the V172. Still can't get her over 4K RPM's. I know the tach is accurate as I checked that.
15p ran 25mph at 4000
17p ran 30mph at 4000
19p ran 30mph at 3800

So It's time to dig into the motor and see what's holding her back.

The last picture show's one of Dave beautiful bronze prop! Nice work Dave!

So It's time to dig into the motor and see what's holding her back.

Check firing order, make sure the wires are correctly placed on the distributor.
Compression check of all cylinders.
Make sure carb jets are clear, fuel pump(s) are good.
Check there are no air leaks in fuel lines/fittings and that the tank vent is clear.
Check fuel filters or tank pick-up tube for clogging.

Ok, does anyone know if there's a purpose to that sea plane?  (ie Commercial )  Or is more because some uber-rich guy wanted one?

Have avoided White Bear Lake because of the low water level, but the channel was deep from the concrete launching ramp to the deeper waters. Beautiful lake, clear waters, just the right wave chop. Few boats at 3 PM but the parking lot filling up when leaving at 7:30. Tested three of the 21" 2 blade bronze as follows:

Purchased this year, lots of cup on blades, 50.7 MPH GPS at 5,200 RPM
Purchased years ago new, moderate cup on blades, 51.4 MPH GPS at 5,300 RPM
Purchased this year on e-bay, slight cup on blades, 51.7 MPH GPS at 5,400 RPM

Other props owned are higher pitch and are meant for the 1988 Merc and were not tested.

Motor does not seem to hesitate anymore - Christmas gift in May.

Enjoyed the company of Jason, Scott, and Scott's dad.

Distance is hard to judge in the video and I'm sure he made it, but it looked to me like he wasn't going to clear those trees. ;)

I don't know it's purpose, but it's on the lake frequently and I don't think it lives on the lake anywhere that I've seen.  The first time Mike saw it, he said it came over the trees outside our house low enough that he dove for cover; sure that it was going to crash.  Must be fun to be able to travel to any lake you want anywhere in the country like that.

Big enough to put a Glastron in it too! No more waiting at the ramp!

Yeah, I wondered if it didn't do chartered flights (for fisherman) to remote lakes in Canada, or something like that.
