Tank re-new out by Valley Fair can fix it. I found a used one at Boat Motor Recyclers for $100

Did you have to go and pull it out or did they
I think this has become an addiction.

Mine was always stored indoors too. It's the lack of use and storage with the tank not full that rusts them out.

The 16.5 gallon p/n: 640030 is the direct fit replacement.

Interesting. I must have gotten mine just in time then! Anyway, If you decide to go new and plastic, this one should work:

That is the one I found also.

I am just trying to decide if I should get the old one reconditioned or if I should buy a new one. The boat is completely original at this point so I am leaning towards reconditioning the old one. Thoughts?

The tank in my 67 Mercury Montclair was "reconditioned" by the previous owner. I have had it for 4 years and not had any problems. Not sure who he had do it though.

I have one I could sell you, I hung on to it for my cv-16 but I might get a larger one because of the engine I'm considering.  I also have some extra parts.

"Ode de old bar" comes to mind as a way to combat dead animal stank. Spilled drinks, beer, cigarette butts, an overflowing urinal, some vomit perhaps? No self respecting varmint'd be caught dead around there ...

If only there was a way to capture this in a scent ...?
LOL! I can always count on you Doug!

If you are really stuck on all original, then the choice is obvious but personally, I am moving away from steel tanks. Then  rust is not an issue again, clogging up filters and carbs. I wonder if Ethanol is worse or better or the same in that respect?

You have to pull it. It will last, they coat it inside and out. They did the tank in my 48 Plymouth. At least it will be the right tank and fit.

This one won't work. The CV16SS tank it only about 7" tall and the filler is way over on the side.

Whoops, yeah nevermind.  That one is 30" x 16" x 9", the one I pulled from the cv16 is 36" x 18" 7.5 ".

Kelly has some stuff called Od-a-ban? or something like that.
Works good - I think she gets it at Costco - I'll check.

Jim

Update - It's called 'OdaBan' and she gets it at Sam's Club. 1-gal jug.

It works great on pet oders, My sister-in-law cleans houses for a living & turned Kelly on to it.

I'll can get you some of hers if you want to try it.

Seriously, they changed the tanks from a CV16 to a CV16SS or maybe a year change?

I'm pretty sure between all the cv16's with built in tanks were 18 gallon tanks weather it's an ss or not.

Finally got a chance to work on the boat again tonight.  Pulled the boat out and hooked up the muffs. Got it started fine tuned the carbs and it runs great. Cant wait to get her out on the lake and see how she does.

If you don't have a Sams membership Ace Hardware has Odo-ban for $47.99/gal .

http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11588560&kw=odor&origkw=odor

I used another product from Ace that I can't find on their website, called Odor-Elim or something. I'll check the bottle in my garage tonight. It was about the same price wise but it did a good job on the smoke tar/odors in my Highlander I bought from my uncle.
