Plan B
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:33:51 PM »
Well I brought home a CVX16 today but it wasn't the one I'd planned on. Wouldya believe that lil peckerhead in Sarasota bailed at the last minute? Sob!

So, not to be discouraged. I took a drive all the freakin way to Brooksville & couldn't resist bringing this lil gem home. '81 CVX16 w/'83 140 Johnson crossflow on a massive Escort galvanized trailer w/brakes. Boats rough, no interior. Though someone 'replaced' the floor awhile back, been sitting in the weeds for God knows how long. Fenders are falling off the trailer but otherwise it's in purty good shape.

Now for the dealmaker: Don't think the motor's ever seen saltwater. Super clean. Got about 115-120 per hole. Pulled the carb bowl drains, blew some fresh gas through the turpentine & got her running. Not good but okay.

I was about to mention that it looks like a metric series. The rounded over bow is the key to their look. I've seen one metric in person in Houston.

Looks like a great score on the motor. I'd like either a 130, 140 or 150 for mine. I'm about to list my 88 SPL for sale locally so I can start my motor fund. Only issue around here is people destroy motors and then want top dollar for them. I stopped by some guys house near my home that has four V4's from the '90s under a metal cover. 112 spl, 115 and two 130's. He wouldn't budge on any of them. Guess what? He doesn't even own a boat anymore.

Let us know how the motor turns out.

Nah it's not junk Doran but the floor & center stringer are rotten. Transom shows no exterior signs of damage but you know it's probly soggy too.

Besides being filthy the hull's not too bad 'cept for the "repair" someone did on the bow. Not quite sure yet whether he sanded all the flake off, or painted over it?

Well here's the latest: Me'n my lil bro did the old trailer switcharoo earlier. As you can see it needs some dialing in. Not entirely sure it's gonna work tbh. The pad is not cooperating with the rollers. Wants to keep sliding off to one side or the other. I'll figger something out but boy it was a real pita getting that pig halfway plumb?

"New" floor, or, how not to install a new floor. Guy just laid the wood, sank some drywall screws haphazardly into the center stringer, and started slinging cloth. Glass is almost completely delaminated & ply is soaking wet. Transom's rotten in the bilgewell too. Aie aie aie ... Here we go again.

On the bright side me'n a buddy just got done yankin the carbs & he's gonna go through em for me. WooHoo!
