Well we managed to get 54.6 outa her today under less than ideal conditions. Windy, choppy'n snotty. Still running like a turd up top. Cleaned all connections. Greased the gerbil bearing etc. Wtf am I missing? Pardon my french but it's really beginning to piss me off!?

I'd eliminate a piece of the puzzle one at a time starting with the fuel tank and work towards the engine. Try another portable tank, change the fuel line or primer bulb, go from there. I've replaced many primer bulbs because the check balls inside were closing off fuel flow. Stay away from ones from Tempo/Moeller. The best primer bulbs are the ones from OMC/Bombardier.

Been known to be wrong but don't think it's fuel delivery 'issue'. Got a glass filter right in front of the motor. Always full. Considering the amount of gas this thing burns compared to the 90 I highly doubt it's starving for fuel ...?

Hate to say it but I think what we're dealing with here is a not quite passable chunk of crud in one of the main jets?

I'm with Rich, get a potable tank and take the filter out as well...

Potable tanks is how I roll. Carry a 9 & a 6. Have a 14 gal tank that'd fit up under the bow. But my go-fast buddies tell me not to do that?

Tach hole
« Reply #206 on: March 27, 2012, 06:10:17 PM »
Buddy gave me an old OMC tach today and let me borrow his hole saw. As he was puttin' the tool together he said 3 3/8" right? I answered yeah I think so. Well guess who just drilled a 3" hole through his dash. I'm gonna wring Ernies friggin' neck tomorrow ...

edit. To his credit the tach does work. You might notice I moved the control box fwd'n down. Like where I told my other good buddy Chuck I wanted it in the first place. You remember Chuck, he's the knucklehead that mounted the motor off center'n didn't seal the old Merc holes. Aie aie aie, why can't anything ever be easy?

Measure twice. Cut once.  Damn it >:( Is the hole supposed to be 3 3/8" and not 3"?  Use a drum sander on a drill and slowly enlarge the hole. It'll work. Just ask my neighbor when he did the same thing.

There's an easier way to fix the hole:

Add a backing board, a piece of scrap plywood screwed to the rear side of the panel using wood screws, covering the hole. Use that to be the pilot anchor for the larger hole saw.

Stiffs on bimini
« Reply #209 on: March 28, 2012, 07:19:30 PM »
Ya, plan to redrill the hole tomorrow when I get the correct size saw. Duh! Why didn't I double check? Now I got three times the work. Grr.

Oh well meanstwhile, not to be discouraged, I eliminated the aft straps on the bimini by adding a pair of stiff bars. Much easier to access'n egress without the straps.

To be honest the boat probly wouldn't have a top on it yet if I hadn't screwed up'n ordered (4) 7/8" rail mounts for a job that required 1" ...  40$ mistake. Duh again.

Barring any more effups hope to have the tach installed tomorrow eve.

Finally! 'Bout freakin' time huh? Seems to work fine. WooHoo! Now what to put in the other hole, hmm ...

New fuel line retainer finally got here too. Might get real fancy'n turn it over'n run the line through the oil line loop?

Yeah I considered sticking a hole plug in it. Decided to put the non-functioning yet still optomistic fuel gauge in for the time being. Believe I'll stick a horn button in the hole stb of the switch panel. Assume that's what was there. Or a cigarette lighter perhaps ...?

Ha! Hey decided to go with a horn button instead. The one outa the 153 fit the hole perfectly. Dug the vw sounding horn outa the housing too. Just gotta mount a lil longer bracket'n stick it up under the dash'n wire it in?

Figgered I'd plug the 2" hole with the scavenged V163 fuel gauge for the time being. Just have to keep reminding myself that it's not accurate. Always reads full ...

Got to thinkin it might be a good idea to cover the LCD display on the Tiny Tach. Thought I might make a lil canvas flap velcroed on top'n bottom. Then I spied it, cap for one of the trailer guides. Works like a charm'n I gotta spare ...

Still have some high end 'issues', but for the most part she ran purty good today. New plug wires should be in tomorrow.

Hey listen to this my boy Brian over at Unique Upholstery on Venice Ave is redoing a similar Baja for a customer. Blue 17 footer. I'm gonna scoot over there and pull a pattern off'n the front seat. WooHoo!

Nope! But JR fooled me. Had me believin' somebody stole the Bumble Bee (his bass boat) which happens to be wearing the cowl from my 140 at the moment. Gave it to him with the understanding he was gonna paint it?

Oh well like a dumbazz I fell for the story hook line'n sinker. Even after being fooled earlier in the day by my friend the really hot tall cashier @ Publix supermarket. Told me there was a problem with my debit card. I said okay I'll pay cash. She said no you can't do that if your debit card doesn't work ...

Anybody get burned more than twice today? (I fall for it every year ...)

Forgot to mention the dang redneck rigged tattle-tale tube blew itself up into the motor housing and extinguished the motor yesterday. So she's now been thoroughly baptized by saltwater, in and out. Aie aie aie ...

Ironically I have the fitting where it goes through the cowl on order. Oh btw the fitting on the bubble butt was incorrect as well. And the tubing was too big, allowing water that should've been cooling the motor to exit the peehole instead.

Went ahead'n pirated the parts off'n the 90 for now. Knowing me I'll leave the 90 parts on 'til I need the new ones, then not be able to find them ...?
