Truck Killer (off topic)
« on: February 26, 2016, 09:14:21 AM »
Son's duramax diesel truck just back from a fresh 6" lift, and he took it to Gulf station, Hwy 7, Minnetonka for fuel.  In less that 1/2 mile the truck was belching white smoke and dying.  After I came to tow him back home, I went to the station and pulled a sample from the pump.

This is what i got out of the pump.  I had it tested, and the station's tank, by Minnesota Commerce weights and measures, petroleum division.  Sample so contaminated with water, it cannot even be tested as fuel.

Now I am faced with at least a tank drop/clean, blow lines, new fuel filter and water separator, blow the rails, and hope there is no injector damage.  Anyone know what the station is actually liable for?  Repairs?  Punitive damages?  Thanks.

I hope you took video of actually pumping gas into that container so you can prove it came from their tank.  Don't almost all stations have some sort of guarantee against engine problems caused by fuel related issues?  (I'd check their website...)

Can't you call those guys back and see what your legal recourse is?

What Gulf station on Hwy 7 in MTKA? The one just east of Williston next to Taco Bell? I live out that way and run a gasser in my GMC HD but would like to avoid that station just the same.

I'd say if you have a credit card receipt that will prove where the fuel came from. May even be on the station video filling up the truck/container.

I'm just trying to give him an idea of how to unequivocally prove that their pump is pumping that crap out of their tanks...a video would absolutely negate any change of Gulf's lawyers trying to fight the repairs...that's all.

Put that video up on FB, Youtube, Twitter...then start linking to it from Gulf's FB page, Twitter Page, etc...you will be amazed how quickly companies respond.

The lab verified my sample to the pump and tank.  I think I'm safe there.   It was pumping so slow, he quite after $8 and paid cash.  Station will have surveillance video and pump records to back me up, along with the Lab who is cooperating.

The tank must be leaking snow/water in from somewhere...let's hope the diesel isn't leaking into the water table.

I am keeping that powder dry until they respond to my first demand.

That station was tore up a few years ago and all new tanks.  Maybe, maybe not a leak.

I'm sure the station will turn it over to insurance, keep your receipts, or have someone generate them for you if you do the work. Don't expect reimbursement anytime soon.

Best of luck.

Looks like they are doing the right thing.  They have apologized for the incident and assured us they will cover all repairs to make things right.  We will keep you informed.

They got the truck to a shop last Friday but could not start on it until yesterday.  They got it cleared out and started, but it wont stay running.  They said next they have to look for where water may have frozen and pushed out a seal along the fuel system as next step.
