Title: New Steering recommendations 1989 18CSS
Post by: bayrife on February 28, 2018, 09:42:18 AM
Hello everyone,

my project for this spring is to completely replace my steering system.  The system in my boat right now is the original rack and pinion it is extremely stiff and in need of replacement.  I put up with the steering last summer but ready to get something new for this season.  So I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what system to go with/brands etc.  I have no experience in steering systems so this will be my first time.  I use the boat for pulling skiers and tubers.
I am also debating whether to try and do this myself or have someone do the work for me, anyone have any recommendations on shops?  I have been looking at shipwreck marine in Princeton MN as they are near our cabin where I currently have the boat stored.

A little info on my craft:
1989 18CSS (Carlson Signature Series) 18-19ft
175HP Johnson outboard
Thanks everyone, and see you on the water!
Baylen.

We talked a little about this on the beach at the meet.

 Seastar

SeaStar Outboard

Hydraulic would give you freedom to lift motor or add a jack plate, very expensive but worth it.

Look through the Seastar web site for duel cable steering if the hydraulic is to much money.
I had Hanney's do mine, we talked and went over a lot of options before he even started.
