Going to hopefully move the CVZ-18 aka Fawkes over to the cradle this afternoon. One thing that might stop me dead in my tracks is I don't have any carpet remnants to put on the bunk boards. I am thinking this is going to be OK since I am going to re-gel the haul, but I just am wondering what everyone's thoughts are.

Just find a carpet store that does installations and look for scraps in the dumpster out back. If you do this tonight nobody will know you've been dumpster diving.

Good idea, but nearest carpet store is a 30 mile drive.
Cradle trailer swap is on hold, too dangerous, wind is blowing 30 to 40 MPH. When I picked up the stern of the boat off of the trailer the wind was causing it to swing from side to side. So, the forecast looks decent so far for next weekend I guess I will try again then.
I have been thinking, that I should place the boards for the bunks vertical so I don't have to adjust them to match the angle of the haul. I believe the cradle Red uses is designed this way.

Hit a Home Depot or Lowe's if you have on and get a roll of that outdoor carpet. A 9 x 9 roll is under $20. Plenty good to protect the hull.

Won't be sliding the CVZ on to the Cradle. The plan at the moment is to suspend it in the air, pull the trailer out and line up the cradle with the first set of strakes and gently set it down.
Oh crud! Sitting here typing this I just realized that I need to build another A or H frame to lift the bow. I think this one will be a little bit shorter than my current A-frame. Maybe only 6 ft tall this time. ;D

You could use a jack and blocks at the stern. I use a block of wood with a v cut into it and a floor jack and lift the keel, then put blocks under the sides at the stern. The cradle I used for the GT d had no padding and it suffered no damage, at least not from the cradle.

If I had a concrete pad, I would be able to do that. But since I am working on a semi level dirt parking area next to my shop having two lifting frames is a must for stability and safety. Plus, they will help with storage of the cap once it is removed in the spring.

If you want to block it up try Tractor Suppl Co. they use styrofoam blocking to ship their utility trailers. After the trailers are unloaded they throw the foam out. I used it to support my CVX while I built a cradle. Works great and it was free.

I will have to check with Tractor Supply, good idea. If the boat is empty enough, no motor & such, can you lift it with an engine hoist from the eye hooks on the bow and stern?? Just wondering.

I use a 2 ton chain hoist and comealongs. I used a engine hoist on the bow eye when I changed trailers on phoenix rising. It worked quite well

Wax the snot out of those boards - it will slide on without carpet, easier than you think, too.
Just get some paraffin chunks and rub 'em down.

You won't get the wax out of the fiberglass if you're going to re-gel it. stick with the carpet, or anything dry.

If you're re-gelling, why worry? Fiberglass is harder then wood. Might scratch a little. Too bad you are not closer. I found many carpet scrap remnants in the attic of my shop.
