Title: Plum CV16 with Evinrude ...
Post by: Hyperacme on August 17, 2015, 04:00:29 PM
When I showed up on Sat. at 5:00 there was a Plum CV16 with a older Evinrude on the back.
He had a red Chev pick up with a small white hydro on pick up bed racks.

By the time I got back to parking lot (about an hour) it was gone.
Joe said I was hallucinating ...
Did any one talk to him ?

I did.  His name was Murray. He is out of Faribault, MN. He has had the boat for about two months,  and loves it.  Murray got a great deal on an original unmolested cv,  it even smelled old. We were talking about him wanting to raise the motor but he doesn't want to reck the transom molding.  He thought maybe someone at the meet might have figured a solution out already.  I thought a set of wedges would work,  though I'm an i/o guy so do knows.  The hydroplane in the truck was his fast boat.  About 80mph. He bought the hydro as a wrecked hull, I don't remember how it was wrecked, at 80mph I can imagine it blew over. Oh, he also worked with my uncle for years.
All I know

Wasn't there a Murray that joined us on the Minnesota in the spring about 4 years ago? He had a Jetflite?
Maybe I got the name wrong.
So where did he go? He never put in?

Ross, I'm pretty sure you are right, he did mention he had a Jetflite. I even think he mentioned is was abnormally fast,  big motor or something. He had to work all weekend so he only had a little time to stop by and look for his solution to the molding.

Yes that was me with the 75 CV-16. I am from Owatonna MN and purchased the boat at the auction in Faribault MN. I still have the 69 Jetflite. More then one boat rule is OK at our house. The wedges maybe the way to go to get clearance on the trim piece on the boat. I am looking for a solution that will spread the force out on the transom and not put all the force on a small area of the transom. The CV-16 is all original with the original Evinrude motor. I just had to clean the carbs, as the motor would not idle down without quitting. The tilt and trim needs to be rebuilt as it is not holding, a leak in the system somewhere. (Winter Project) The boat runs out at 45 mph at present. I am running a 21" alum. prop. The boat came with a 17" alum. prop. The motor is sitting at 19" at the transom at present. Raising the motor to 21" should get me in mid 50's. I do not want to wreak the trim piece on the boat to raise the motor. Any pictures of what people have done to raise their motor and get clearance would help. Also Just a small correction, the Hydro runs in the 70's not the 80's. Would have to change the boat and motor to get in the 80's.

I put the wedges in to get clearance for splash well drain, lifted motor had trim cylinder right over drain.
They come right up to trim piece and covered the old motor mount holes, should work well for what you want.

Also added the "Transom support plate" to cover old Merc  thumb screw gouges, which also adds support as well.
