Great Iowa Tractor Ride
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:45:06 AM »
I know one of you works at a Case IH dealer ...
For the next four days, we're under siege.  The Great Iowa Tractor Ride is a 4-day event with people coming from all over the country.  They pick a different city every year, this year is our turn.  Woke up this morning to the sound of a tractor parade on the street in front of the house ... I stopped counting and walked away from the window at 121.  Newspaper and radio say there are nearly 600 tractors registered.  They fully expect more than 500 present and participating on each of the 4 days.  For those of us in the midwest who get a little antsy at being stuck behind a combine or planter and slowing traffic down - imagine what it looks like to have only tractors as far ahead as you can see.  Kinda cool, in a way, just don't be in a hurry.  A lot of these are classic and antique tractors.  Some pulling wagons/carts.  About half of them are flying American Flags.

And in Nebraska too, we just had ours here about 2 weeks ago except they drive them across the state from the east to the west. Now that takes dedication to drive a Farmall A,B,C, or any antique tractor across the state for those the stayed on the whole way.

We had 13,000 Street Rods and Classic cars last weekend. Keep your tractors.

Were your 13,000 cars all in a parade at the same time?

I'd love a good classic car ... just not sure which one, nor why.

Your picture must be a little off Jerry. A few of those cars look newer than 64! I was there Friday, I was looking for you but didn't see ya.

That was at Lucky's last year. We didn't go this year. Dottie has a bad knee and we just couldn't walk around. Maybe next year. We haven't had the motorhome out, or a boat in the water. I would love to go out some night to a lake with an eating place, like Al and Alma's, or Lord Fletcher's some evening, or Prior Lake. Any ideas?

My grandfather, before he passed rebuilt his farmall that he bought new for the farm that my uncle now operates.  He took it all over the state for shows and parades.  He also had one, I believe it was an old john deer, that didn't have any rubber on the tires because it was made during WWII. Pretty cool.
