All the factory CV16SSV8 boats were OMC/ford powered to my knowledge.

I thought they were Volvo Penta (Glastron) powered. That's what I've seen most of them with.

But if the dealer was a Mercruiser dealer it's possible they were factory equipped with Mercruisers if specially ordered by the dealer.

Funny/weird that only one has turned up with a Mercruiser ...
Every one I have seen was a Volvo drive.

True .. I think it was Volvo Penta vs OMC ..    I am not familiar with either of them ... the drive on my other CV16V8 boat was this 280 model drive.  Glastron engine package with Volvo Penta Drive I guess.

Yes, anything that was "Glastron" branded was usually a Volvo Penta package, the 270/280 drives are Volvo Penta.

You can still get the adapter plate to convert a Volvo-cut transom to a Mercruiser hole, they're about $1k. Then mount a Mercruiser Alpha transom assembly to the adapter.

Rich is right, if the boats that were sold to a Mercury/Mercruiser dealer, the dealer would install the power system, but Glastron did have a contract with Volvo, for some boats, as well omc, I don't know any more than that.
One thing that is different now, than then, is that the boats were Sold to dealers back then, not placed at a dealership on a floor plan the way they were powered, or had a contract to do, quite different than the way they are placed today.

Some time back I posted a Powerboat Magazine test of the CV16 V8 I think......that one has a 302 Volvo package at 165 HP with a 1.61 gear ratio.......measured top speed 49.8......but I would think it had no power trim.

ya, a bit spooky towing.  It has those old tires which still look good but have got to be old as the hills.  It looks like it has an old mobile home axle under it.  I have a Glastron trailer from the 80's I intend to put it on but have not replaced the wood on it yet as I want to.

Yeowza! That would be incredible!  Is that a built 350 I assume?  I would not imagine the ford gear would mate up.  Bell housing and exhaust would change.  Engine mounts?  If anyone could make it fit I know you could!  Like you really need another project this winter!

Hey Chris
the 409cid is a 400 sbc 4 bolt block bored .060 over, this one has a steel 400 crank with a 16 pound flywheel, Kieth Black pistons, 11 to 1 compression ratio, Eagle rods, computer balanced, the block has been paralelle cut, decked, with aluminum angle plug heads w/2.02 Manley swirl polished valves, hardened keepers and retainers on good springs, roller lifters, and thats all I can afford for the time being.
I plan on running the Edlebrock air gap intake, undecided yet on the carb, EMI Thunder exhaust thru hull
with corsa mufflers.

I have sold my pretty boat to a fellow in Austrailia, it will be leaving here in February for it's journey.  I'm going to be building another one I bought last month, another total project, but I don't mind modifying the hull on it, my goal is to have it in the water by August for the shoot-out at the lake of the Ozarks.

That 409 sounds cool......I run a 400 small block in my 34 Chev.  I keep thinking I want to try one of the 454 Small Blocks some day.....600 lbs of torque and 600 HP

Probably wouldn't be hard to swap a built 351 into your CV16...  ;D

I have an 87 CVX16 with a bow tank. The old fuel line interior lining is disintegrating (small yellow flakes) and I need to replace the line from tank to transom.

How do you access the bow on a cvs 16?

cvx 16?  Take out the kick plate under the dash ... it's tight but you can get the tank out after removing it.  If I remember correctly it is just tabbed in with glass along the bottom and at each side (or it was on mine anyhow).  The CV's are screwed in place.
