Restoring Plastic Glastron/Carlson Emblem
« on: May 29, 2017, 11:30:57 AM »
My plastic Glastron/Carlson emblem is basically in good shape, but needs to be repainted. Emblems like this sold on e-bay for $150, but since mine are in black and silver, was thinking of just painting the raised areas. Has anyone else done this? What is the best method? I see that Testors now has enamel marker pens for touchup. Might be better than a brush.

Patience and a steady hand is all you need, sign painter's paint would be better but Testor's is good.

Marker with chisel tip would work, steady hand is right !

I have the same emblems on my '86 CVX-18 and was going to try a 4" hard rubber roller called a brayer and some silver sign paint. the brayer is very smooth and should apply paint to only the raised areas.  Keep the pressure light and the roller lean on paint.  You should be able to find a brayer at any art or craft store.

I am going to prepare the surface, getting off the wax and polish on the raised part by using a flat razor blade or fine sandpaper on a block. The marker applicator should give sharp edges if I am careful. Your way is the best though. Post pictures of your end result and I will do the same. Getting my Testors silver marker painter from Hub Hobby in Roseville.

I painted the Glastron Carlson emblem on the CVX-16 with Testors enamel metalic silver paint marker. Not perfect, but okay.
