What did I just buy?
« on: April 11, 2018, 04:11:45 PM »
Hello fellow boaters.  I just bought a 18'  1976 Glastron from the daughter of my Dad's deceased neighbor.  It is in showroom condition and garage kept for the past 15 years.  The title shows HIN of 50182 but the model number as Evinrude.  A typo no doubt.

I know it is a V Hull Aqualift.

Without any more information how do I figure out the model number for my insurance man?

Thank you for your help.

John

Thanks Greg.  Here are the only photos the previous owner sent me(I am picking her up next week.)
I am assuming it is a V-182 or V184?

Yep ... Could be a V-182.
Should give model number on dash.
Serial number will be on right side of stern.

Thanks Greg.  I appreciate your help.  Since I am certain the battery is dead and I will need to tilt it up to tow it home...would you have an idea on what battery case size it would take?

Thanks,
John

Serial numbers ...

In 1973, Glastron starting using letters (GLA...) in the Hull Numbers.
Your fourth number from the left being the year built.

4th number from the left only applies to those built from 1970 to mid 1973 that had a 7 digit serial number on a plate inside the boat.

In 1973 the HIN was stamped on the outside right rear corner of the boat starting with the manufacturers prefix GLA and the last two digits indicating year of manufacture (73, 74, 75, etc...).

Great score on a classic.  Obviously you'll need a battery to operate it, but if all you need to move it is operate the tilt/trim, a good set of jumper cables will do.  Hope to see some pictures of your new treasure.  Welcome.
