1984 intimidator restoration
« on: April 28, 2019, 03:54:35 PM »
Found in shed north of the twin cities. As normal all wood is rotten and interior is shot.  But all parts are there cooler with lid,ski pole, super trap mufflers and center console. No extra holes cut any where.  The bad is that it has had a small repair on the bow and everything from rub rail up was cleared. The clear is peeling. Not sure what I am going to do at this point with that.  Also has factory aluminum trailer with stock turbine wheels and trailer brakes that work.
Color is Orange and tan

Looks quite similiar to make 85 colors, Coral/Cream.  Never seen a Timi with CVX on the side.  Another item I noticed is the handrail on the right side as you would climb up the boarding ladder.  Kinda makes sense, but I'd guess aftermarket addition.    Appears to be far more restorable than mine was.  Would make a great project for someone.

Does/did your Intimidator have a metal flake bow? It appears the CVX on the sides is probably just tape.

Mike do you plan to flake back with coral color again?

If so I suppose matching existing with a total redeux does not matter.

Just wondering if you checked into flake that matches.

Going to try and find a match as close as I can, because rub rail down is in very good shape.

I saw some Roth flake sometime ago that looked identical to the original Glastron coral, though it was called red something.  With an intercoat clear, you could tint to help color match.  Since there is an angle break at the rub rail, I'd think the color match would have to be fairly off to notice.  And at that, more noticeable on trailer than water.  Shoot some test scraps, see what the formulation needs to be.  Greg posted the attached pic in my "Timi Time" thread that shoes the original design on my 85.  My new scheme will be Coral again, I do like the cream color over white, I've just not decided the bow area flake or solid color yet.

The more I stared at your bow, the more I notice the bow light is set a bit far back.  Must have punched the nose and the solid color was easier to match after the glass work was done.

Yes something happened at the nose of the bow.  The boat is going to sit for awhile with a lot of time to think how and where to go with the top half of the hull.  But as of now thinking the top half will have to be redone. Will talk to different companies to try and get samples of colors. Do not having to spend lots of money for stuff that foes not match.

If you look close the rib that runs down the bow has an opening where the bow light lays.  Mine is the same way.  It is where it has always been.
