1974 CV-16
« on: December 25, 2019, 11:41:22 AM »
Hello !  I am a new member here and have a 1974 CV-16 that I have owned since new !  I am taking care of her needs that 46 years have taken from her. Everything was pretty good but for the transom I just replaced. I need to do some metal flaking to repair what was fixed. Does anyone know what color flake will match the green they used in'74??

Thank you for any information you mite have!

I raised the transom height 2Ē for the prop Iím running on my 115hp Mercury....prop is a 14x22 super cup prop. It now puts my cavitation plate even with the bottom.

You could also try vintage flake. He sells stuff for old snowmobiles.  I bought mine from him he is the only one I could find that carried square flake. Most likely that is what is on your boat.

Is this the company you got yours from Jeff ?
https://www.ebay.com/str/Vintage-Sled-Paint?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

I have my cavitation plate is about 2 inches above bottom of hull, works pretty good.
Also running a 22P Laser II prop, getting 52 to 54 mph / GPS.

CV-16 update..... Iíve been busy working on the boat... finally got it painted! I ended up using Moss green .015 metal flake and the match was good ! Once I paint under the splash well I will start installing the carpet. I found the burl wood vinyl fabric for the seat bottoms and it looks like itís supposed to! If anyone is looking for something like that, let me know. Here are some pictures of what Iíve been doing....

Pickle Rocket!   Looks fantastic, great idea on the transom raising, looks like it might also help keep some of the water out of the splash well.  Let us know how that works out when you get it out on the water.

Looks GREAT !
See you still have the wood decal on side !
With motor lifted are you still able to use your cable steering ?

I found this Burl wood a few years ago, pretty close match.

Hello Greg... I found some of the Burl Wood vinyl fabric from a place in Chicago and bought 3 yards of it for the seat bottoms and it's a good match. my side wood is good.  What thickness is your transom plate? I want to bend one up for mine before I install the engine.

Greg...I have the rack and pinion steering and it's not a problem raising the engine...  your seat bottom looks good ! putting the carpet in first then I'll do the seat bottoms...

Plate .. I think your referring to .. is a "Transom Wedge" ..
https://thmarinesupplies.com/collections/cmc-marine-products/products/cmc-transom-wedges-2-degree

After lifting my motor, tilt cylinder was blocking splash well drain hole, this was the cheapest & easiest way to get clearance.
Also have one on inside of splash well.

Wish I had known about this one .. Might get one some day ..

Greg ...the wrap you putting on...is that stick on  like paper?  I tried some stuff that ended up being a shelf liner and it would rip. This is the place I got mine from and it's just like the original....   http://ifscoind.com/productDetail.asp_Q_catID_E_128_A_subCatID_E_735_A_productID_E_15400
I'm using a 3m spray adhesive to glue it down and stapling all the edges.  I started with the side pieces to get the hang of putting it on and it's  working good !
I'll have pictures tomorrow..

Burl wood was pretty thick plastic stuff with a paper backing that peeled off with sticky surface.
Didn't stick to resin coated seat bases well, so used staples.
After some uses I noted that seat bottoms were wearing away of burl wood .. So covered edges with duct tape.

Wow ! Looks nice ! Did you have the seats redone or is that original?  Looks like you laid your carpet in all one piece?  Any problems doing that ? Mine was originally  done in 2 pieces with a seam in the middle with a plastic H piece joining them...

I just got cheap indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot.  It was long and wide enough to do in one piece. The seats cover most of the floor to hold it down, so I used carpet tape to stick it down around certain spots. Worked well and is easy to replace when carpet wears out or gets burn, stains, etc.
