Minocqua
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:58:00 AM »
Took "Orange Float" (I finally gave a name to my boat) up to Minocqua for the holiday weekend.  Did the Minocqua chain and also the Eagle River chain of lakes.  Motel owner gave me the red carpet treatment because he loves classic Glastron boats.

Glad you made it up there. Still my favorite place to boat in all of MN and WI. Did you go down to three lakes too? They have a really cool boat lift that lifts your boat over a dam on eagle river between Cranberry lake and Long Lake! A fun troll down the narrow eagle river too. Can't wait to get back up there. It's been a few years! As I have said before, Tow vehicle looks great too!

Wanted to do the Three Lakes chain but I turned around in the channel leading to the boat lift because there were so many boats ahead of me.  Both Minocqua and Eagle River chains were VERY busy.  Perfect weather.  I agree -- this area has the best boating.

That lift is purty far out, we ain't got nuthin like that 'round here. Not that we necessarily need one ... But it is very cool.

With just myself in the boat I get a top speed of 53 (gps) with a 21p Mercury aluminum prop.  I get a top speed of 48 with a 19p Michigan aluminum prop (which I put on for waterskiing).  Don't own a stainless prop.  My Grand Marquis tows the boat easily.  I consistently get 19 miles per gallon while towing (and running the a/c) which I think is pretty good and I drive a lot faster than the folks you usually see driving a Marquis !!!!!

19mpg is purty dang good for a full size car if'n ya ask me. Heck my dinky 4cyl Ranger ain't much better'n that, running around town I get a solid 23mpg w/ac, sometimes a lil better. But that's not tugging the boat behind it either.

Ya most of the Marquis pilots around here don't drive very fast. I sometimes need to remind them, "It's the tall pedal on the right ...!" Heh heh heh

Boat looks great!
