I'm gonna have to save the CVX20 SPRINT.
« on: September 06, 2012, 05:53:58 PM »
Guys, remember the little CVX20 Sprint that we picked up a couple of weeks ago.  Well Red sold the 200 hp engine off of it and made our money back, so the hull and trailer didn't cost us anything to get.   He is stuck on the idea of turning that little CVX20 Sprint into another stretched project.  I think I'm gonna have to go over there when he's not home and pull it away to an undisclosed location just to save it.  He has me talked into putting a new floor and stringers, new interior, a 350 and a stern drive into it and doing a conversion on the hull for that,, but this stretching it 20-24 inches and making it a 2 seater is just not right.  He is sending me these pictures and taunting me. Should I just go get it and save it before he stretches my half along with his. Help!!

Heh,heh,heh... Well Barb, sounds like you got yourself a situation there. Don't suppose you could talk him into being happy with making a fiberglass hatch for over the back seat instead?

I shipped my little contribution to that project yesterday, and it's got nothin to do with turnin it into a two seater... I'm stayin outta that one!  ;D

I don't know how you folks settle things down there in OKC, but I think you can take him!  ;) Don't tell Red I said that...

I dunno ... I kinda like those pictures.  Jerry's boat had a really pleasing profile.  I'd love to have a play project like that ... if I can ever get my hands on a good free hull and trailer ...

Ya those are the hardest parts ...

Yo Barb, tell Red to lay down his Sawsall & back slowly away from the boat ...

I dunno, but if'n it's an OB it oughta stay an OB. I'm thinkin 250 VMax ...?

Forget that thought Barb, I'm on to you now, I done put that big yellow lock of mine on the tongue of the trailer, and
I figure I got time enough to win your support on the nose mod, cause the CVX is next in line behind the SeaCamper, we got to get that one ready for the water by Thanksgiving, but I have no objection to you go ahead and start on the CVX while I'm working on the little house boat, you can tear out the old floor and transom, stringers, I'll help you put it all in the trash cans and get them to the curb.

Just my two cents, but Barb, dont you want or need an outboard in the fleet? Guess it would be kind of cool to modify something what seems drastic but its a tough one. Sounds like Red is chomping at the bit to go nuts on it.

No, No, No, no outboards.  I can demolish me some floor and stringers though.  Looks like she will get break while he works on that old houseboat. No stretch!

My thoughts;
Start by adding a pad to the bottom, Don't "stretch" it. Way too much work for little gain. Move the dash back 2'. Get the stringers and transom done, and motor mounted, then call me when ya get tired of working on it.

What's wrong with outboards??? You can put transom jacks on those and REALLY PLAY!!   (insert evil laugh here)   ;)

(and before someone humorously points out that I don't have one yet, I have to add that I have one ready to go, but haven't put it on yet because of the dual steering cables current route - wanted to before this last event, but only so much time in one year for projects...plus, I originally bought that for the Switzer but hadn't put it on yet - but for some reason a lot of things I had put aside for the Switzer seemed to "make their way" mysteriously to the CVX this year)   :)

Before I start some type of debate though, I have had experience with both inboards and outboards, and they each have their advantages, so I'm not cutting down either engine type. And admittedly, there is one thing that's hard to duplicate on the outboards...that deep throated sound...even though it was somewhat tried...because mine came with that "Bob's Exhaust Housing" that the previous owner took off to make it sound something like a Harley (I put the housing back on - still makes a little better sound and works quite nice for dialing in the prop exhaust slippage), but there is something about that DEEP sound that you just can't normally get from an outboard...   ;)

Yes, I've heard the CVX-20 does need a pad for really fast speeds, although I haven't notice a need for it so far, but I'm not pushing the same upper speed range you'll be trying for either.   :)

Sounds like Red is chomping at the bit to go nuts on it.

I've been looking for one of these hulls for several years to put a Mercruiser I/O in with a small block Chevy.  I have actually been looking for a CVX 20 Jet hull, I really like those lines, but this little baby has an almost identical hull, and it's in perfect condition, it's strait, clean, not one scratch or ding.   The fellow we bought the boat from has already put a new floor in it, added foam, and he said the stringers were hard, but he didn't stop up the little drain hole in the sump at the back of the floor and water is trapped up under the floor, so we got to lift the floor up, take out the foam he put in there, put the floor back in and pour the Secure Set foam, it's a Lot more rigid and impervious to water, thats what I put in Jerry's boat, and that baby is solid as a Rock.

Here's the plan,  I already have a 5.7 vortec, it's done been to the machine shop, Mercruiser exhaust manifolds, thermostat housing, all the hoses, a Alpha One transom assy and drive with 1.32 gear ratio, XD t/t rams and pump, thru-hull exhaust, and you guy's just Ain't gonna believe what else I got for this little project, it's top secret for the moment, we'll let that cat out of the bag when we get pic's.

I'm not sure what I'll do with this one when it's finished Jerry, but it will get finished,  I don't think I'll be giving away any more boats.

Hey Guy's, or Barb if she's got connection down there at her lake place ..
I need to know, on an intimidator, I need to know the measurement from the bow cao to the transom ?
if someone could lay a tape on it, I'd sure appreciate it.
Don't have to be Exactly, just an eyeball on the end of the tape for the transom.
