Finally decided to join after lurking for years. I was a part of the classic Glastron forum for a while with the same username. Everyone here seems to be more active than other places I have looked. Looking forward to all the conversations.

Welcome to the forum wc351 !
Can you post some pictures of your boat ?
-
Here is the GT-160 that I mentioned and the CV-21 I just picked up yesterday. I hope to get better pictures soon. The crazy coincidence to me is that they are both '71s and both have the same style bow light.
-
Welcome and nice boats! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the CV21.
-
That was a I/O ?
Are you going jet or I/O ?

I wasn't aware the cv-21 ever came as a stern drive.
-
I knew the early CV19SS came in I/O or jet, have seen two CV21 that were I/O's
This is from the 1972 Glastron Price & Spec sheet.

The boat is a '71 based on lack of HIN and the bow light is the same one I had on the GT. I was aware of some I/Os but I have never seen a picture of one anywhere. I can't tell if it was originally an I/O or a jet but will say that the intake for the jet doesn't seem to fit well or have the build up I expected around it. I will be going with a 460 and a jet because that is what I have always wanted. The boat has the berkley jet, two 460 bell housings, two different lengths driveshafts, and he had an additional dash (for the wiring of a 460) from the boat he got the jet from. I have no idea who started this conversion originally but the guy that I bought it from has had it for years. It is the same one in the Craigslist ad.
I am documenting everything I am finding before I start a thread on the restoration. I imagine that it will take a while to get it done though.

FYI The stamped in hull number law went into effect on Nov 1 1972, three months into production of the 1973 model year. Not sure when Glastron implemented the change.
-
Did it have the plate still attached ?
I can't find the picture I have of the CV21 I/O .. It was painted white with a checkered flag graphic on stern.
I think it was a Mercruiser .. Maybe done by owner ?

There's a list of serial / HIN here .. Scroll down ..

Then this is confusing. The number indicates it is a 1970. No idea why it loaded the picture sideways.
-
The early Glastron/Carlson's didn't use the serial number with the build date that we know of.
Look behind dash, around steering wheel for a tag glassed into deck. Might have a build date.

I couldn't find anything like that on the boat. I was basing the 1971 off of the lack of HIN knowing that they weren't used in '71 or '72 and the style of the bow light on the front since I have only ever seen that style and size on '71 boats. I know those can be changed out but I don't know how someone would find one of these. The bow light is small, has two wings made into it, a third one for a nose that can be removed. Also whoever had it in Texas requested the registration number and had 1971 as the number. I may be grasping at straws here but these are the only indicators I have discovered so far.

To see this glassed in data tag I had to lay on he floor and stuff my head waaay up under the dash on the passenger side. And even with that it was unreadable, but with a phone/camera picture I could read it. It is best to look for this data plate before the age of 50, after that your body does not bend the way needed to find it.😀

Oldfishguy is right.
I'm a bit older that that but his advice is spot on.
I found a tag on my boat under the dash by the helm.
-
I'm over 60 and have trouble finding HIN on the stern !
-
I guess I have something fun to look forward to starting in 10 years..... not being able to bend and move.
I crawled under the dash and was not able to find anything. Maybe I will when I pull it apart I will find the tag. For now I will keep investigating on what all needs to be replaced, so far the steering, throttle, and gear cables seem to be just fine.

On the other Glastron site .. You asked if a CV19 windshield would fit the CV21.
From the UPD web site they are different.
1973/1974 CV21 = Inside Windshield Dimensions: 76 L x 16 W x 20 1/4 H
1971/1973 CV19 = Inside Windshield Dimensions: 72 L x 14 1/2 W x 18 1/2 H
-
Wasn't sure if I would get an answer on the different forums. I feel like the windshield will be the biggest challenge to find.
-
Yep .. Think so ..
You could contact Achim, but that wouldn't be cheap.

Been emailing him already. He mentioned someone was trying to get a group buy to make the shipping cheaper.

Thanks for the link, I wasn't sure if that was going to be the right one since it was a few months old. Not sure how I will get mine here in Georgia and it help in getting the shipping cheaper.

I put money down on the CV21 a few years back under a complicated deal. Someone came in after me and offered the guy to buy the boat and he took the windshield and swim platform and never returned for anything else. Long story short the boat was originally a jet as all CV-21s were. Someone tried to make it a stern drive and I can see it has since been put back to a jet drive. It is a shame that a CV-21 would be butchered and parts taken.

I received the same story on the windshield and swim platform. He also told me that his "motor guy" had stolen the motor from him and that he wasn't going to pursue getting it back. It is a shame that it was butchered like it has been and I have already started the process of getting it back to what it should be. One day I hope to find a windshield frame or I will get one made for it.
