I'd love to go through one, I worked on the redwing damn a couple winters ago when they dewatered it, it is unbelievable how massive they are.

Maybe someone has asked this, but how far is it from the campground to T1?

Its right above lock #3.  Probably 7'ish miles by river?  If you pull up a satellite image of Red Wing, its in 'Sturgeon Lake' on the river.

Sounds like fun but my night vision is non existent, I would have to ride with someone. I run into crap in the house after dark all the time.

I seem to be experiencing similar problem(s). Is there a cure?

I'd prefer Sunday,

Many people will be comming in on Friday, It would be nice to catch up then.  + then we don't have to try to navigate the river after dark...should the dinner run long

I'll throw my 2 cents in. If you have never been through a lock, I would strongly suggest NOT to go Friday nite. TI will be packed with larger and then even larger boats coming from the north and coming from the south, plus possible barge traffic. Then throw darkness and possible boat trouble in, not good. Sunday big boats with be coming out of TI, no big deal. It is a no wake zone entering TI all the way to the docks, I know they will be hailing you on ch. 16 wondering who you are and what your intentions are. They will tell you to switch to ch. 9 so they can talk to you, they are very nice. There is a sandy beach on the down river side of the docks you can pull up on, beware of shallow water. They have a shuttle bus that will take you to the casino. Daylight you be much more safe and more fun.
See you all this weekend.
Mikey

I agree with Mike...  I've been thru all of those locks between Minneapolis and Red Wing.  Most of the time it's not a problem to run them during the day, but a person much wiser than me once said...  "Never take a trip thru the locks if you are on a tight timeframe."  Some of you might remember that Allan Pfromm came down to the meet last year on his friends cruiser.  They were on the north side of Red Wing for several hours due to some delay and instead of getting to the campground by 5pm like they thought it was more like 8pm (if I remember correctly).

In most cases, you can get thru in about 20-30 minutes, but if you are stuck on the wrong side when a barge comes thru, or if something else goes wrong, it can be a 2-3 hour wait.

Considering that our weekend is only a few days long, I would hate to have a boat or a group miss out on the gathering due to a problem with the locks.

I think that a Sunday Buffet at Treasure Island would be a fine idea since you then have more of a window of time.  Just remember that it's ideal to be packed up and out of the caming area by 1pm.

Of course I'm not familiar with the locks up there, but Here, when we take a river trip, I call the lock master and check the barge schedule, traffic, and we have never had to wait, I get the numbers for the locks & dams on-line through the corps of engineers, I don't know if it's the same up there.

Yes!  You can absolutly call the lock master.  I have the Hastings Lock programed in my phone as that's the one that I use most often.

Red Wing is a busy lock.  Always good to be prepared!

Check out the photo's in this flyer.  The red Wing Lock is Lock #3

Can someone call the traffic master in Kansas City and tell them to clear I-35 north bound.  I will be pulling Burnin Daylight through there in about 45 minutes from now and I don't need no stinkin delays.

I agree with Sunday being the better day with people arriving Friday and the darkness issue. I think we'd be game for Sunday, if we can tie our dog to a tree or something.  :D

I am a lock virgin and have not been through one. Might be fun.
