A new Member to the Family ( CV-23 )
« on: July 01, 2014, 09:49:45 PM »
Drove out to the Auction in Willmar, MN today. I wouldnt have been able to sleep if I didnt at least try and buy it sure enough I was high bidder so I got to hook it up and bring her home.  It has been in storage for aprox the last 15 years with the exception of being used about 8yrs ago.  It was winterized after it was used then back to indoor storage with the cover on. it is a Jet and it looks as though someone has done some work to the motor.  Here are a few pics More to follow I am going to try and have her on the river this weekend.

Awesome! I want a ride in it. I am curious how these feel as a jet.

Very nice Shawn! So what will be come of the CV23 project?

I will keep working on it and once it is done I will more than likely sell this one.  I would rate it abot a 7 or 8 out of 10. Someone has already buffed it all out. As I am sure you guys noticed the interior has been redone and changed a little.  Does any one know what year they started making the 23's and what year they offered the orange and cream. Looking at the HID 70 is the last number but that dosen't seem right. I dont think they made them in 1970 did they?

Your CV23 is a 76. First year. I think only available in a jet that year also. I bet the last digit of your HIN is a 6 not 0. If you are looking the registration card it may be wrong. I have seen it happen before.

Thats what I thought as well From what I have seen you could only get orange in 1976, 1977, 1978  Thats why I dont understand why the HIN says 70.  Also any idea on the K ? Here is a rubbing of the HIN
I think this has become an addiction.

I believe it is prob a 76 as well but the HIN looks like 70 There is no reg for the boat or trailer just bill of sale. Last time it was registered was in CA in 1997

Your HIN is does not make any sense. If it followed the same patter as the rest of the carlson's it should read:

GCV#####M76K (the K would mean the month it was built, in your case, June)

examples:
GCV01762M74C 1974 CV16SS
gcv02358m74h 1974 CV-18
GCV04295M76B 1976 CVX20
GCV04766M76F 1976 CV16
GCV06310M77C 1977 CVX 16
GCV09123M78B 1978 CVZ-18.
GCV10465M78H 1978 CVZ-18.
GCV10480M78H 1978 CVX-18.
GCV15210M79L 1979 CVX18
GCV16381M80F 1980 CVX-18.

Jason I agree. There should be a G before the C but there is not. and it clearly looks like 70 and not 76. I am heading to the DMV now I will register it as a 76.

A little update on the boat.

1. As most have seen I did a complete rebuilt on the jet after the thrust bearing went out.

2. I rewired the whole dash area and removed lots of misc wiring and switches. Plus wired in a new auto bilge pump, hooked the blower back up, and cleaned up the engine wiring and grounds.

3. Adjusted and correctly installed the throttle and shift cables. Still could use a steering cable I think because the steering is a little loose.

4. Last night I finished up putting in new plug wires and a new HEI distributor. Also re-timed the boat "Thanks for the help Joe"

5. Boat already had a newer poly tank in it.

6. I am also really thinking at some point someone has went threw the motor because the block is painted nice and the heads are a different color. It also has a Moroso oil pan with a Edelbrock intake and a holly carb.

At this point the boat is in great shape and should be dependable for years to come. I have went over most everything in the boat. Although there are still a couple odds and ends to finish up like buffing and changing out a couple hoses, and the fact it is an old boat so there will probably always be something to tinker with. I am still thinking I will probably sell it next year after the other 23 is done. It is not perfect but it is in pretty good shape.
I think this has become an addiction.
