Hyperacme:
I did a quick scan of CL for Merc parts ...
By the time I got back to your post to list them ... They were gone !
If I remember right ...

LU  ...  $250
Whole swivel with T&T plus pump  ... $200

Rosscoe:
Comp. numbers look good. You should probably just keep what you have?
I've seen people selling motors with bad compression for quite a bit of money. Especially if it has hard to find parts.

dorelse:
Since the compression is good,  I'd probably stick with that one and find a mechanic who can work on the older Mercs...

Finding one who can & one who will are two different things ...

I don't have a whole lot around me - the only two guys who say they can, have said they'd only consider it a winter project.  They don't want to deal with needing hard to find parts while they're busy.

Just looking at this thing, if I need a new starter, I could be spending anywhere between $180 & $360 ... I think I might rather put any spending towards a motor that is newer by 14 or 15 years

Have you tried Dave up at Brightwell's?  Maybe he'd go through it on a Saturday with you.
