I have a 1978 SSV-176 with Johnson 115 HP. Runs great, wanting more horse power. Looking for feedback from others who have upgraded motors. I found a rebuilt Johnson 150 that caught my attention. Has this been done before?

I've seen people put 150 HP motors on GT150's and CVX16's.
Your boat is rated 140 HP which would be a V4 Johnson / Evinrude or I6 Merc.
Both in the 300 to 320 lbs. range .. so a 150 HP J/E would be about 80 to 90 lbs. heavier .. give or take a pound or two.
I think it would be a good upgrade as long as your transom / stringer / floor is in good shape.
